Gaul was divided into three parts. No, four parts - for one small village of indomitable Gauls still held out against the Roman invaders. As an Asterix fanatic, I have read each and every one time and time again. Although all Asterix books are of the highest calibre, Asterix and the Great Crossing compares to no other. As with all Asterix books, the wit is sharp and intelligent. But here Goscinny and Uderzo seem to bring their magic to another level not seen before in any of the other books. The subtle double entendres and the blissful ignorance of Asterix and Obelix on discovery of the New World makes you laugh out loud and you dont stop laughing until you have put the book down for a week. Goscinny and Uderzo also manipulate the plot wonderfully so that the comic potential that the two main characters have are played out to their extreme. Never before have I read a book as funny as this. A book for adults and children alike. An absolute must must buy. If you have never read Asterix before, read this; the perfect introduction.

Only two great comic creators I love. The fellas behind Asterix and Pat Mills. The only true creative genius I have read. Buy this and pretend its for the kids

An entertaining story with some funny scenes and generally it is well written and drawn. It only just manages to fill the usual length though, it was clear they had gone as far as they could with this very slight plot idea. The comedic references are good and the trio's energy just about keep's it afloat, but only just. Some might not even get why the Vikings are here at all, but at least they add something to the flagging story when they arrive. And it'll educate you too if you didn't know that story.
