Product Description

The First Ever DVD release of this 1956 Drama digitally restored and re-mastered. A Butchers 1956 production starring American leads Richard Denning and Carole Mathews. Was the idea to make the film more saleable in the USA? Or to make a British film more American? A bit of both I would think... It s a story of murder, counterfeit money and international crime with a pinch of Nazis. Our brit Ronald Adam is the bad guy - funny how brits are the bad guys in American films these days!! Ronald Adam featured in 148 productions, his last in 1978, just a year before his death in 1979 . Quite a good little feature, with picture and sound of good quality, after some extensive restoration.

A good staoryline and clear picture are the plus factors in this latest from Renown. The many locations are also fun to spot and can still be identified 55 years on. The 2 stars Denning and Mathews are good and the supporting actors all well known faces for those who watch or collect 'B' pictures. All round a nice addition to the catalogue. Made at Nettlefold Studios by Butchers Films.

This is one of the better Butcher's/Renown releases, but it's still not a great film, just a fair "B" film with good stars - Richard Denning and in particulay Carole Matthews who looks terrific (I'm a fan!), even if she does have a dodgy German Accent. The film is unusually long (1hr 17 mins), and is perhaps 10-15' too long. Some good London location shots, tho not enough. Danny Green at his thuggish best, and a young Jan Holden showing promise of a good future. The plot is standard Secret Agent stuff. The print and sound are first class. If you like BR "B" films you should enjoy this. Carole Matthews in a basque (is that the word?) just looks great, but as I said....I couldn't in all concience give this 5 stars, because a lot of my enjoyment is probably personal and nostalgic.
