Product Description

The year is 1989. The Cold War is reaching its final dramatic climax when Max Robertson, the greatest media tycoon of the age, suddenly dies, apparently committing suicide on his luxury yacht.

Six months later the Mossad assassin Sam Woolfman finds himself on a job that goes badly wrong. As he is forced out of 'the bureau', his retirement fund vanishes, and he finds himself a broken and bankrupt man.

Woolfman is thrown one last chance to get his life back on track - find out what happened to Robertson and his missing millions.

An intelligence asset sent to find a financial one.

But five men who tried to find out what happened to Robertson have already died.

As he starts an investigation that takes him across Europe, and into the heart of a disintegrating Soviet Union, Sam discovers that Robertson may not even be dead.

And when the truth of his 'suicide' is discovred, the last great secret of the Cold War will be revealed - toppling governments, and throwing the global economy into chaos.

'The Asset' is a compelling conspiracy thriller based on real events that will appeal to fans of Frederick Forsyth and Robert Harris.

The Asset has been widely praised.

'Hits you like a fist in the face - this is what it is really like to operate beyond the law' - Chris Ryan

'A highly charged fictional debut' - The Daily Mirror.

'An entertaining blockbuster' - The Independent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Insider Thriller. 16 Aug 2012
Juval Aviv was the Mossad agent who Steven Spielberg based the film Munich on and he clearly draws on insider knowledge that goes with working for a real-life intelligence agency. The hero Sam Woolfman appears to be based on the author himself. A former Mossad guy who goes freelance and gets caught up in a plot involving the fall of the Soviet Union, a media tycoon - and his old agency. This book is a strong, smart thriller. The pace rarely flags, the author is knows how to write action set pieces and there are echoes of real-life figures/incidents in story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Conspiracy thriller 18 Aug 2012
I couldn't get my tongue out of my cheek in this non-fiction thriller. It had so many home truths that echoed real life without actually touching upon it. The Asset is interesting, revealing and definitely a pop at the comings and goings that went on during the end of the Cold War era. It was about time somebody wrote about some of the revelations as The Asset does. Bewildering conspiracies are dealt with in a professional and believable way too.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Asset 17 Nov 2012

I thoroughly enjoyed the story. Would have given it 5* but for the spelling mistakes, split words etc. For example: Mossad was in as Massad numerous times. If you are publishing an ebook the proof reading should be as stringent as for printed books!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good but..... 14 Sep 2012

I really enjoyed this book and the obvious parallels to real life were very good. Not sure if there is a sequel, but i would buy iy if there was. The only problem with it was the terrible state of the download. Loads of mistypes as well as blank lines and split sentences interupted the flow of reading. but all in all can't fault the author. A very good book

5.0 out of 5 stars Mossad's Answer to Jack Bauer. 29 Aug 2012
By Carly
The Asset features a former Mossad agent who goes freelance and gets mixed up in a plot around the fall of the Soviet Union. The Mossad are not usually portrayed very sympathetically in fiction, but the hero here - Sam Woolfman - is an engaging character. He is hard-bitten, cynical, and damaged by working for the Bureau. He's Mossad's answer to Jack Bauer! The Asset is good old fashioned mindless entertainment. Reminded me of Chris Ryan's and Andy McNab's (better) books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but still a gripping read. 24 Aug 2012
By Chris
This is very much a period piece, set around 1990, and some readers may find that off-putting. Some of the technology seems dated - it would be handy if someone had a mobile phone. That said, it has some excellent descriptions of the technology available at the time - and anyone who works in IT will enjoy the descriptions of the rubbish Soviet-era computers. The plot is very clever and never flags. Not perfect, but still a gripping read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tricks of The Trade... 24 Aug 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
Downloaded this on a promotion. Well worth it. The Asset is a great conspiracy thriller - or chase movie - that knows its eggs. The hero is an ex-Mossad agent, and the book gives you a real insight into how the most secretive of agencies works. There are plenty of tricks of the trade here and some inside knowledge that will keep the buffs hooked as well as the general reader. How much of the stuff in here is true itis hard for the general reader to say, but it is certainly presented in a convincing style.

4.0 out of 5 stars Could have been encrypted at Bletchley! 29 May 2013

This book is a refreshing change to the normal world of indispensable retired ex SAS/CIA operatives giving up their gardening job to save the day, as no one else will do, other than it relates to an indispensable Mossad operative who's resigned and now left in the cold by his previous employer. Rather than saving the day, the main character finds himself between a rock and a hard place having got himself embroiled in a 'private' investigation that is very unpopular with a number of agencies, and thus it his his skin that needs saving, particularly as he's also cheesed off the Russians. I'm only about 60 odd percent into the book and have thoroughly enjoyed the story so far............BUT..........the kindle text is bl**dy awful, containing misspelled words, words joined together, long words broken up with spaces, and words totally out of context. You could be forgiven for thinking that parts were written in code! The result is a regular disruption of the flow of reading, which is irritating. In fairness, I downloaded my copy when it was free - I don't know if there have been editorial improvements made to the latest purchasable copy. This is a good story and I will look out for other books written by the author, but the quality of format did tarnish my enjoyment.
