5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Overview of the Subject, 15 Oct 2008

(REAL NAME)
Aside from the section on Domain Controllers this book could have been as a generic security work rather than a Microsoft one- and most organisations will have Domain Controllers.
The book starts with basic security principles, moving through penetration testing and audit. Application threats - web, database, email are covered in detail. As befits a book on network security, likely DNS attacks are considered and mitigated.

Many references on security dive into the technical and become hard work to read as a result. I found this book kept my interest cover to cover as it took a high level key concept approach. It does not go to detail of a CISCO guide, however IP is well covered. You do not need to be a network administrator, or even particularly, technical to grasp the key concepts here.
Although not mentioned there is a lot of overlap with the CISSP exam content, and I would recommend this book to any prospective CISSP.

Particularly useful is the checklists and countermeasure checklist.
For someone looking to gain a broad understanding of network security this book is ideal.
