Product Description

When Anastasia Pollack's gambling-addicted husband permanently cashes in his chips in Vegas, her life craps out. She's left with two teenage sons, a mountain of debt, and her nasty, cane-wielding Communist mother-in-law. Not to mention a loan shark demanding fifty thousand dollars.

Anastasia's job as crafts editor at American Woman magazine makes life even stickier when she discovers the dead body of über-ambitious fashion editor Marlys Vandenburg hot-glued to Anastasia's office chair. Marlys collected enemies and ex-lovers like Jimmy Choos. When evidence surfaces of an illicit affair between Marlys and Anastasia's husband, Anastasia becomes the prime suspect. Can she sew up the case and keep herself out of jail before the real killer puts a permanent end to her investigation?

Delightful 3 Jan 2012

A witty humerous story full of wonderful characters that make you laugh ... such as a parrot that quotes shakesphere at appropriate times.
The whole book is full of imaginative characters and situations that whilst unbelieveable is made believeable by the way the story unfolds. Based around a woman whoose husband dies - is sadled with the mother in law from hell and with her mother after her 5th husband dies both of which hate each other .... including their pets.
Being chased by a loan shark she goes to work to find a colleage glued to her chair .... hence the title death by glue gun. Believing the detectives are incompetent and that they only suspect her she tries to solve the case.....

disappointing 21 Jan 2012

This book looked appealing - a crafty murder mystery sounded exciting and different. It is intended as part of a series and it's always good to find a book you enjoy knowing there will be more of the 'same' coming out.

Unfortunately, it was not what I had expected. The writing is poor, simplistic, full of references to products and unnecessary comparisons (some very questionable, e.g. 'as effective as an insect repellent in January, in Siberia'). The big theme throughout the book is that her mother in law is a communist. Annoying at best, I was hoping this would turn out to be relevant to the plot when all is revealed at the end but sadly this was not the case.

The 'who did it' part was predictable. The first time this person was mentioned, I knew who the killer was.

There are characters in the book who add nothing to the story, however, I would imagine (and hope) they were introduced with future books in mind.

All that said, the main character, Anastasia (I did not particularly think that the name suited her), was likeable and I was rooting for her. There are a few craft projects included.

If you are looking for a lighthearted book you can read in a couple of days, not think about it too much and are happy to skim through paragraphs every so often, you may enjoy it. If you are like me and have to finish a book once you've started it, regardless of whether you are enjoying it or not, I would give it a miss.

Couldn't put it down 18 Jan 2012

i really couldn't put this down!! I wanted to know what happened next, the main character was believable and her relatives quirky. You could easily put yourself in her shoes. Everything I want from a book was here and it was over too soon.
