I expected something a bit better when I saw the cover and noticed Vinnie Jones was in it.Not scary, not funny,a bit gory.Very low budget film set in R.O.I.Based around peat bog bodies preserved in the countryside. One is unearthed and his soul comes after the cast for vengeance.Dreadful.Should have stayed buried.

The cover is the worst thing about this film; it has nothing at all to do with what goes on in the movie, and can only lead to disappointment if that's what drew you in to watch. In my case it was a plot synopsis, with a rather interesting basis - the European peat bog bodies and what exactly they represent. The factual element is well explored in the story, and while the fictional theory developed from it may be a bit absurd, most horror films are based on ideas which won't hold water. It is low budget, with minimal (and cheap) effects, focusing on character and plot rather than big bang action. It's closer to Evil Dead than Dawn of the Dead, though a lot less manic and slower in pace. The comedy is less slapstick, the gore less visceral, though it has moments of brutal unpleasantness. I found it quite good entertainment for the price, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Ireland becoming as well known in future for imaginative low-budget horror as Japan, Thailand and Korea.

The packaging is better than this load of tosh, it is truly dreadful and it deserves all the bad reviews. Don't buy this, its corny, poorly made, and utter nonsense. Budget wise, its in the woods, about 300 yards of it, and uses an old derelict outbuilding, a shop scene that makes no sense (should have been deleted) besides that, it has the most awful and cheap villain of the piece...probably an extra that they threw a bunch of rags over....or possibly an ex wrestler or bouncer...farm labourer.....and an assortment of support to Jones, who acts himself throughout....adding nothing..and he's definitely not an A class star or actor...far from it. The Irish Film Board often puts together excellent films, but this Irish crap really brings the whole thing to a full stop...especially horror.....even the budget film Wolfhound done years ago looks excellent compared to this Darkness rubbish....as for bogs, throw this film and the company into it.

This is for me the very worst movie in history and even Vinnie deserves better seriously.
I can't even remember what its about tbh and it went off after about ten minutes because it was just so badly made and stupid i couldn't be bothered and watched something(must be something)else.
Honest paint drying on a wall is more interesting.
Batman And Robin is best picture nominated compared to this.
Go back to Lock,Stock Vinnie.
