Had this bought for me as a gift and truthfully did not expect to like it as I enjoyed the novelty and uniqueness of the first Assassins Creed but did not like any subsequent ones that I felt were unoriginal and tedious.
Imagine my surprise when I reluctantly tried it and of the six launch games I own this has now became my most played title, I cannot get enough of it!. The world is very absorbing and encourages you to explore and graphically, although one of the first next gen games and therefore not mind blowing, are very nice indeed. Gameplay is good with very few control and camera issues and the 'missions' are detailed and enjoyable.
The game is set in 1700's caribbean, a time where the rule of the seas is contested between the fleets of different nations and pirates who regard themselves as independent rather than criminals. The premise of the game is that of accessing the memories of Edward Kenway though a system called Animus, though the current day parts are small and infrequent to avoid interrupting the theme and feel of the main game. The main storyline is that of Edward Kenway and his adventures around the caribbean which I will not go into to avoid possible spoilers but the main quest line is entertaining and well produced. Alongside this are LOTS of side missions, collectables and exploration opportunities. There are also upgrades for Kenway and also for his ship which can be obtained through collecting materials such as wood, metal and cloth etc. and also through items gained from hunting both on land and at sea.
As you progress through the game, further features are added such as the ability to manage a fleet and to make one of the islands a home for Kenway and his band of pirates.

There is definitely more of pirate than assassin about the game, but if you enjoyed the naval missions in AC3 then you are going to love this game!

Your ship doubles as horse and home both - giving you access to the vast map which is crammed with large and small islands to explore. The game play on land is technically very similar to other assassins creed games, climb the tower, kill the bad guy without being detected, chase the courier etc and game play in this regard is pretty much unchanged. There is also a free companion app available on android which syncs with your game giving you Kenaways maps in real time.

Over all, I'm very impressed with the game, it's got everything I was looking for from the game and my new Xbox One and more so good job Ubisoft.

Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag is a great game that you will love. I have played most of the Assassin Creed games but this one may be the best.

The game takes the concepts within Assassin's Creed world and puts them into a pirate adventure game. The game does an amazing job of interjecting some history as well into the game. The game features historical characters like Blackbeard and Benjamin Hornigold. Beside the history, the game looks great.

The pirates within the game are not cartoon versions like the ones we see on tv. The game goes to painstaking efforts to make the story grounded within reality. The game look amazing and has tons to do within the game. Their is alot of content within the game, including exploring island and having your own pirate crews. The even acts differently based on the decisions you make, this includes singing different songs based on the bounty you collect. This is a great game that you should pick up.

Thank you for reading my review, if you have any questions feel free to email me, I would be happy to help you with any questions you have.

Had a rocky history with AC games - Found the first one hugely dull, got really quite into the 2nd one, got burnt out about an hour into Brotherhood so sacked that and Revelations, then found III to be a bit of a shambles. This ones was getting rave reviews so thought I'd jump back on-board and see if it was good. And it is! Very good in fact.

The game is at its best when you're travelling the world and sailing the high seas, picking fights with ships and taking down forts and singing shanties and gradually claiming every collectible and piece of map in that OCD way that's so satisfying with sandbox games. As a piece of open-world design Black Flag is incredibly well realized and a joy to spend time in.

There are still some problems though, and most of them are lingering artefacts of it's predecessors. The whole 'automatic free-running' thing is brilliantly fluid when it works and correctly guesses what you want it to do, but it's success rate at that is still as low as ever. There are few things more frustrating than failing a chase because your character suddenly decides to run up the nearest wall, leap off a rooftop or just stop entirely (this happens mid-climb often for no discernible reason. When you've been stealthing your way through a mission's optional objectives like a boss only to have all your good work undone because your assassino gets a life of his own is horrible. Likewise assassinations. Sneaking all the way aboard an enemy ship, climbing the mast and preparing to air assassinate the captain should be amazing, but your chances of hitting the right person are slim enough to make it hardly worth the effort. The game is badly in need of an additional run button, ie.
