I watched the movie last week here in Izmir Turkey and i was blown away by it.It was one of the best movies of 2007 for me maybe the best.I noticed that the soundtrack for the movie was so powerful when i watched it.I didn't know it was arranged by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. After i saw it in credits ,i got the cd yesterday. It is a very good ,mellow soundtrack.I wish the soundtrack had the Nick Cave singing song at the movie about Robert Ford, but it hasn't.Nevertheless it is a very strong movie with a strong emotional soundtrack.

"The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford" : A huge, sprawling, operatic western movie that brings to mind the very finest offerings from Sergio Leone.

With regards to Leone's westerns, how integral was the music of Ennio Morricone to the finished product? VERY integral! Put simply, those films would not be the same without the stirring music infusing each sweaty, elongated scene.

The thing is, to my mind, Cave and Ellis have actually bettered the soundtrack maestro Morricone with this release. This music is remarkable. Each tune is dripping with emotion, featuring melancholy minor chord changes executed on piano and strings. Warren Ellis' violin work is stunning - he makes the instrument ache and sob and scrape and cry. I have listened to these compositions on repeat play and literally weeped like a baby!

I was going to use this review to pinpoint highlights from this album, but - to be honest - I can't. Every tune is a winner. Just when you think the sounds can't get any more heartbreaking...THEY DO! This is the kind of music that evokes feelings of nostalgia, loves lost; a beautiful, irredeemable past.

I listened to this album with my brother last night. As the last tune "Song For Bob" played out, my bro uttered (without any kind of irony): "That is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard."

And d'you know what? He was right.

I urge you to buy this album. No, scratch that - I IMPLORE you to buy this album!

A final word - thank you to Nick Cave and Warren Ellis for enriching my life. I will take this music to the grave with me.

I don't think I can say much more than what has already been so I'll just say that this soundtrack is very much worthy of such a special movie. If you love movie soundtracks like myself you will definately want this one in your collection, I have a lot of soundtracks and this has to be one of my favourites.

This sound track contains some of the most beautiful music I've heard. Masterful work from two of the best writers in film, no doubt. A wonderful album to accompany a stunning movie - highly recommended, for fans of the film and indeed anyone else!

I have this CD for a while now. Forget about the movie, because it shouldn't make any difference for rating the music.

The music is just painfully beautiful and if you like gloomy music then it doesn't get any better than this. I've never heard of Nick Cave before this movie but this work has immortalised him (for me at least).

There are 5 extra-tracks that I've seen on youtube but sadly they are not included in this CD.

Peace.

Like The Incredibles, Star Wars and Shawshank, when I hear this soundtrack, I want to watch the film again, and once I've seen the film again, I want to put the soundtrack back on.
For me, that's the mark of a great soundtrack - it works brilliantly in the film, and when you watch/hear one, it makes you want to re-experience the other.
'nough said really

Having been a huge fan of Nick Cave (and his Bad Seeds) for many years I bought this soundtrack on a recommendation (having not seen the film). I have to say, not only was I pleasantly surprised, but the scoring and arrangements by Ellis & Cave surpass many of their contemporaries in the world of film scores.

Faultless, beautiful and enchanting

after hearing such an achingly beautiful score like this, one thing comes to mind.
How come classical composers of yore write something like this only to be exalted like gods and have their composition performed for eternity.
Then you have such masterpieces as this and not be commended in the same way?
This is without exception, the most beautifully haunting music you will hear in one lifetime. Unlike most scores which feed the image on screen, this feeds the soul.
Move over Beethoven, seriously.
