'Prey' is everything a game should be. Instead of the usual war propaganda games, where the player is basically playing a recruitment video for the military, or shooting as many zombies as possible, 'Prey' gives some heart and soul to the gaming experience.
The Human Race is about to be harvested by 'The Keepers', an ancient race who reside in a massive, living sphere.'Tommy' - our Native American hero - gets involved when he, his sweetheart and his grandfather are beamed onboard the Sphere.
As Tommy fights his way through altered humans, Reptilians, lethal drones and scary aliens to rescue his girlfriend, he learns that the human spirit is more dangerous than flesh and bone. As the odds against him stack-up, he aligns himself with the spirit world to gain advantage over the ancient enemy.
The power of love, spirituality and compassion become Tommy's driving force, instead of the need to kill everything that moves. That said, this is not some light ride. Intense, fast moving battle scenarios, challenging puzzles and a wealth of weapons give 'Prey' the meat on the bone for hardcore gamers.
The Anti-Gravity walkways - one of the main means of transport around the Sphere - are both trippy and exciting to use. Stunningly detailed graphics, and a brilliant orchestral score make playing the game an absolute pleasure.
Forget the 'shoot zombie/move to next level' blandness of 'Quake' and 'Doom' - 'Prey' gives so much more...
(Played on a MacBook Pro 2.4mhz with everything up full. Runs like a dream.)
I guarantee you will not regret buying this game. A classic, in my humble opinion. I can only hope they come through with 'Prey 2'...
