Timeline: Inventions was a surprising little gem a friend of mine introduced me to recently. The idea of the game is for 2-8 players to simply line inventions up in the timeline in which they were created, not quite as easy as you may think though.

The game consists of 109 small dual sided cards. On one side shows the picture of an invention along with it's name, on the otherside is the same picture but with the date it was invented. The idea is that each player gets dealt a hand of cards name side up and in turn places them into the timeline of cards, once guessed the player flips the card to see the date on it. The winner is the first person to place all their inventions correctly and run out of cards, if you guess wrong, you draw from the pile so you don't progress.

It starts off fairly easy as the row of cards in the timeline is incredibly bare but as more and more cards are placed it can get a bit tricky where in the row they go which is obviously all part of the fun. The cards themselves have a huge scope from the invention of bronze, ceramics and the brick right up to blue denim jeans, the colour television and satalites. I mean do you know when the toothpaste tube was invented? I certainly didn't.

The production values are really nice. It comes in an easy to take with you metal tin with the steampunk timetraveller on the front embossed. The cards themselves are of decent quality but they are very small which is understandable as the timeline can grow quite large and the text is minimal. The artwork on each invention and the tin I thought look spectacular and detailed though that's highly subjective.

It's quick to learn and play, almost educational and aimed at most age groups.

A brilliant game for getting kids to begin to put together the jigsaw of history (quite a challenge for adults as well!) Quite a few surprises, even when you think your knowledge of history is pretty good. I bought the Inventions pack but I'm going to get the others as well now, need a bit more revision before I play the kids again!!

I absolutely love Timeline! My sister offered me the first game, in French, and I have bought this extension in English to be able to play with my English friends. You can spend hours playing it!

The objective is to place cards with historical event (Martin Luther King's speech, creation of clementine, domestication of dog, Barbarians invasions... ) in a timeline. You don't need to be aware of dates but you need to think... and to set your cards in order to trick other players.

I would definitely suggest this game to all History teachers! And anyone who could be fed up with classical and non surprising Trivial Pursuit, Monopoly or Cluedo.

This is a quick, interesting game, where you put various objects onto a timeline. The game can last about 10 minutes if you get them right first time or I guess it could be a bit longer if you dont get them right. It's fun and depending on which objects you get and who you are playing with then it changes each time. I think if you play it too many times you would start to recognise the objects so maybe just use the cards in order to save the fun - or replace ones that you already know.
NIce game and if you dont use the tin then the cards take up very little storage space. However the tin is a nice design and the cards are beautifullly illustrated.
