Book Description

29 Mar 2012 Sailor Doyle

A thrilling police procedural with supernatural elements, for fans of Patricia Cornwell, John Connelly and Stephen King

Ten weeks ago, Homicide Detective Sailor Doyle worked his first solo case, a gruesome double murder in a remote farmhouse in Virginia. And things turned very nasty for him . . .

Now Sailor is recuperating with his family at a beach house in Belmar, on the New Jersey shore. He's struggling with prescription drug withdrawal while trying to build up his shattered shoulder and leg, and he's also trying to rebuild his shattered relationship with his wife. Jenny, while pleased he's alive, is less enamoured with the idea of reconciliation.

Seeking refuge in a century-old beachfront resort hotel, Sailor meets an elderly man, Mark "Moses" Stillman, a former minor league baseball player whose wife and daughter drowned in the ocean off Belmar years earlier. Sailor's having nightmares about his previous case, and when he starts seeing things again, he realises that once again he's being guided to the truth . . . even if it's not what he wants to hear. And it's not long before he finds himself investigating those deaths.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Crime Story 31 Mar 2012
By Gareth Wilson - Falcata Times Blog TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
Whilst I wasn't the biggest fan of the author's first book, I picked up this title as I'd engaged with his writing style.

This book, in my opinion, is superior as the characters are more rounded, the plot more complex and of course the author keep you glued with a myriad of fast paced twists alongside darker deems coming to light as it wends its merry way.

Add to this sharp prose, gripping action alongside an author who has learned a lot since his last release and all in, this tale generates a crime story that will be a firm favourite with readers of not only police procedural but also the noir genre with the books realistic flavour. Cracking stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT sequel! 21 Nov 2012

I think this second book is so much better than the first, and I really liked the first. The characterization of the main character was riveting and made me really cheer for his success at recovering from his past escapades and fixing his failed marriage. The multiple layers of conflict got a bit bogged down at times, but overall, I think this book was pretty awesome. I can't wait for the next one.

Since I live in NJ and have gone to Asbury Park a lot in my years. I took my kids there and just walked the board walk. That is why I bought this book. It was great. I love the story line. All about Belmar and Spring Lake. I love ghost stories and this was a delight. I would get another book from this author again. Asbury Park is continuing to grow and liven up a bit. I am glad since it holds lots of memories there. Keep up the good work.
