Reviews

New release of The Reunion Specials, featuring outtakes and a 'making it' featurette never seen before on DVD. It is a full house for the Hardcastles when Sandy and Harry return from Canada and move in. Jean is already imagining the pitter patter of tiny feet and, somewhat prematurely, arranges for cots to be delivered - much to the distress of Lionel. Meanwhile Sandy is convinced that Harry has a death wish when he applies to join the armed response unit in order to gain promotion and Alistair starts to behave rather peculiarly. Just when everything is starting to settle down the doorbell rings. Jean answers it and finds a young man who has travelled all the way from Africa to see his father, Lionel! This DVD contains the two reunion specials from this wonderful comedy series.

I was a bit sceptical about this - I absolutely adore As Time Goes By and the opportunity to own some new episodes before they have even been on TV seemed too good to be true. Well, dont worry - this is the genuine article. These reunion specials are fantastic and all the more enjoyable for knowing that the rest of the UK wont see them on TV until Xmas 2005!
Nice one Amazon.

Just love all of the As Time Goes By series. Judi Denchs' timing of her lines is brilliant as always and all the other actors fit nicely around her.

As Time Goes By is the most delightful comedy ever - The Reunion Specials is no different. One only wishes that there was more of it! The actors are so perfect for their different characters. Judi Dench is absolutely wonderful - as always and she and Geoffrey Palmer together make this series so wonderful to watch with all the other characters fitting in very nicely around these two people. It is pure pleasure to watch this comedy.

Excellent programme. Quality acting and a nostalgic feel good factor. Quite easy to sit for hours and watch back to back episodes thankfully without interruption from adverts.

Three years after the series ended, a two-part reunion story brings Sandy and Harry back from Canada to stay with Jean and Lionel. Jean is anxious for grandchildren, Sandy is upset about Harry's job prospects, and Judy and Alistair have a big problem.

If you've watched the series over the years, you will love the reunions which continue the domestic adventures of Jean and Lionel, the sweet and witty older couple who found each other after decades apart. In the second half of the show, Penny and Stephen and Rocky and Mrs. Bale return briefly for some laughs. My favorite parts of the disc were the bloopers and "Making Of" extras; it was fun to see the beloved cast laugh and be themselves. They obviously had a good time making the show and I was surprised to see it was filmed before an audience (I thought the laughter was canned.).

Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer are so talented and have such believable chemistry together, that watching them never gets old. The writing is as good as always, with the mainstay always being the simple ups and downs of daily life. In the reunions, Judy and Alistair (Moira Brooker and Phillip Bretherton) don't seem very comfortable with each other, but they are charming with the rest of the cast.

For fans, this is a familiar, endearing, and very welcome disc that brings us up to date with the Hardcastles.

This comedy just gets better everytime the make new ones.
If anybody collects the series it is a must to have. I just hope they do not stop there, and bring out many more episodes.
