This is a colourful, clearly-presented book with lots of photographs illustrating painting techniques. The examples given show an extremely high level of draughtsmanship, which, as a beginner, I found a little off-putting.
The book covers watercolours and pencil drawing but not oils - a fact which I feel should have been made clear on the cover. Such a mash-up of different mediums is a little confusing - the index isn't that helpful either!

Over the years I've looked through a great number of handbooks for artists, but I have bought very few, this is usually due to the quality of the illustrations. The techniques may be well explained but the accompanying artwork is, sometimes, terrible. It makes it difficult to feel confident in the material on offer.
However, THIS BOOK IS DIFFERENT. The quality of the artwork is astounding. Its not just a quick sketch here and there to explain a technique. The quality of the examples makes you ask the question "How?" before you even knew you wanted to know.
It's inspirational, which is something that can be more of problem attaining than the methods alone. It also comes in a splash proof jacket - brilliant value for money!

One of the best books around whether you work in pencil, pastel or watercolour. Very informative and explains how to correct your mistakes. A really good book to include on your book-shelf whether you are a beginner or already into painting.
