Product Description

Painting by numbers has been a popular occupation for many years, from children and beginers working with simple shapes and colours, through to improvers and more experienced painters who enjoy the relaxation of the art without necessarily having the ability to view the scene in real life. Reeves has been established since 1766 and as such is built on a heritage second to none. From the development of William Reeves' moist watercolour 'cake' Reeves continues to lead innovation within the fine art, hobby & craft, education colours, grounds and accessories - making us the fastest growing art brand in the world.

I have just completed rail birds for my friends as a surprise. I agree it doesnt look the same as on the box but nevertheless i have enjoyed doing it and i must say i find it stunning and i am delighted with it. It does say on the back of the box if you look that where you see colour 58 use colour 10. I wouldn't hesitate to do another rail birds. Ive done 15 painting by numbers now and so far rail birds is my favourite. Susan Davies

I have completed this painting by numbers and it took me weeks. I didn't mind this but buyers need to be aware of the following.

1 - The colours do not reflect the picture on the box and they are either too bright or too dull. For example, the crimson paints a deep brown red and the light green, is overly bright.

2 - The print is heavy and therefore difficult to cover up. Where possible I carefully scratched away the numbers once I'd decided what colours I was going to use and mix, sometimes together.

3 - The tree area, is too abstract and needs to be softened so as to not draw attention away from the birds.

4 - The detailing of the birds is also abstract so I'd suggest practice holding the paint brush upright and use flicking motions to create 'feathering'.

5 - I found it important to not overload the paint brush. The paint brush is good and didn't shed any hair. It was easy to clean with warm soapy water.

The paint dries very quickly which I didn't find a problem.

This item is absolutely fine if you want it for something to do on a cold evening or for a child to help improve concentration and hand/eye co-ordination and of course to enjoy painting. However, this painting is intended as a gift for somebody who loves birds and is very good at drawing and painting. This really did test my own ability as I am far from an accomplished artist, an amateur at best. I'd suggest you buy a set of Boldmere Acrylic Colours to help with matching the colours to the picture. If possible I shall upload a photo of my finished result. If possible, take a copy of the canvas (use the copy on the back of the box if the canvas is too big for a scanner) so you can test the colours and find what you would be happy with.

Really disappointed, have painted about 14 reeves paint by numbers but this one said paint number 10 which i did, it looked completely wrong, so checked the back of the box, should have been number 58, as there was no 58 in the colours this would have been an impossibility. I phoned Reeves - waste of time - I was told I must have old stock, what rubbish, the board and colour chart were wrong - their answer was 'we will send you number 58', as i had already started the picture there would have been no point so I made up my own colours. Wasn't very impressed with their customer service, they could have at least offered to replace it. I am painting a large dog paint by numbers at the moment, so will give my feedback on this later. I must add that Reeves have been the nearest to the colours shown on the photo, other makes have been completely wrong which is why I chose Reeves.

I am still halve way through, do not take any notice of the colours they say because it looks nothing like the pic on the box, shock horror lol... I did the initial layer the way they stated more or less, but then I just went off on my own tangent, do not buy for a kid or adult trying to build their confidence because this will knock it, I bought it to keep my mind occupied which it has done, I can not draw or paint but with the help of these outlines I am doing alright.

I am enjoying doing it, it will take me months

It is easy to be disappointed when you used more expensive products (such as paintings by numbers by brand "Plaid", also sold on amazon). This is a lovely bright picture, and I was ready to overlook various things such as the fact that the canvas on the wood (which is designed to be hanged on the wall) is not included (just a pre-printed slim board), there are a few mistakes in numbering and the colours are not exactly true to the picture and there is just one brush. On the bright side: there are 20 paints in the set. The board measures 30 x 40 cm (approximately).

But these are my comments after enjoying different product. Yes, I was seduced by the small (relatively, compared to the more expensive sets) price, and I will from now on stick to the higher-priced niche. Having said that, if you are buying this for children who are into arts and paintings, I am sure they will be delighted. Plus it's a great practice of determination and attentiveness to details.

I had a lot of fun doing this. The numbers give a rough guide to the paint colour but to make it look like the original painting you need to do quite a bit of mixing and blending of the colours, so this is great for an adult who wants a bit more of a challenge than with most other painting by numbers sets that I have seen. It's a beautiful painting with lots of bright colours and I thoroughly enjoyed doing it and was pleased with the result. I would highly recommend it and it would also be a great gift.

I purchased this artist's paint by numbers as a present in the future. I thought it was particularly pretty but it is not so easy to paint because it has got some very, very fine lines in it. It is for someone with more experience.
