Amazon.co.uk Review
Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow was released in January 2000 to glowing reviews from all quarters. The companion book, The Art Of Sleepy Hollow, has drawn on the film's strongest points--design, cinematography and atmosphere--to great effect.

This large-format, soft-backed volume is ultimately an illustrated screenplay and Andrew Kevin Walker's adaptation of the classic Washington Irving tale forms the main text here. Instead of the poor quality snaps that so often accompany film tie-ins, however, the illustrations here are something special. Full-colour photography throughout allows the reader to appreciate again the haunting gothic beauty of the film as more than 60 key scenes--yes, even the gory ones--are reproduced. Juxtaposed alongside these polished stills, however, is a treasure of production artwork. The inclusion of early sketches--some by Burton himself--and the remarkable paintings that formed final stage design guides allows the reader to follow the directors vision from conception to fruition.

Designed to appear aged--text pages are yellowed and have fake worn edges--there is incredible attention to detail here for even as the reader studies the screenplay a background of further sketches and doodles is visible below.

A foreword by Tim Burton himself completes the content and as he explains his fascination with the classic New England legend he's reworked for a new generation, on-set photos place the director in the world he created.--Helen Lamont

Product Description

3.0 out of 5 stars Misleading title, never-the-less it's not bad..., 24 Oct 2000
By A Customer
Being a multimedia art's student [and BIG tim burton fan] I wanted this particular book. But I wanted the book primarily for what It's title perceived "the ART of..." Unfortunatly that isn't what this particular book is about. It is basically the whole script, illustrated with both pre-production imagery and shots from the film. There is no information about the production of the art for the film or in anyway how the film was made.

Never-the-less it is still a good book, it's design is quite nice, and it does still show some good images. If your a fan of the film or of Burton then buy it, but hey the choice is up to you. At least now you kow what your buying.

3.0 out of 5 stars the "ART of Sleppy Hollow", well, not really..., 15 Oct 2000
By A Customer
The title of the book is a little misleading, there is nothing informative about the art of the film, besides the script. Being a multimedia art student I was looking for this book in order to see how it was all made, and how the art of the film was developed. Instead it was just a script illustrated with some pre-production sketches and stills from the film [no information was given with the images]. By all means buy it if your a Burton fan or if you would just like the script. Don't buy it for the "ART of..."

3.0 out of 5 stars A nice keepsake., 27 Jun 2000
By A Customer
I had hoped this book would be more like 'The Art of Gormenghast' which had a lot of details about the making of the series and information about the actors. The Art of Sleepy Hollow is basically a script of the film but despite this the artwork and pictures make this a beautiful book. Therefore, if you loved the film, it would be a nice keepsake.
