Product Description

Review

'Archer's admirable overview treats the history of art of this period in a manner which does justice to its diversity and its complexity of inter-relations, between different aspects of artistic practice and the actualities of the world in which they operate... a brave and intelligent attempt to live up to its implications' - Art Monthly

From the Back Cover

During the past forty years, profound and multifarious changes have taken place in art: stylistic divergence has become the prevailing characteristic. This intelligently argued survey explores the perennial question - art's relationship to everyday life - which links Pop, Minimal, Conceptual, Land, Performance, Body and Installation art and myriad developments in the work of Warhol, Beuys, Bourgeois and the many other artists whose works are discussed and illustrated. With a timeline that shows movements, key figures and important world events at a glance, and a full bibliography, Art Since 1960 provides a unique and indispensable overview and source of information on the evolution of art over the past four decades. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This book is great, I purchased it for my Contemporary Curation Unit at uni and really enjoy it. However, I should say that it isnt really one of those books you would read in one go, but it is perfect to dip in and out. Also, since English is not my mother tongue I still find it easy to read. It gives a great overview to the reader and illustrates good examples.

Modern Art 24 Oct. 2010
By Colleen Whalen - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I bought this book for a humanities class I had to take as a graduation requirement. It is a very good book and consise. For a small book, it really packs a punch. Very well made and sturdy. The photos are very clear and crips and it is nicely made book. Very erudite art criticism which accompanies the book. There isn't a huge difference between the new and old edition - so if you find a cheap old edition - and want to save money - no biggie in terms of what is in the newer edition.

The worst text book ever written, I'm a docent at an art museum and we tried using this book and was so unfriendly and unreadable that we had to deleted it from our library.
