5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best book in english about Shogi, 16 Nov 2005
This review is from: The Art of Shogi (Paperback)
There are not so many books about japanese chess (Shogi) in english. Most of them are in japanese.
Nevertheless, this one is really interesting as it is helping beginners to understand most of the typical openings and castles used in Shogi.
The Author is not only a writer but was also the European Shogi champion in 2000. Then he knows a bit the subject I think :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for learning shogi, 1 Jun 2007
By E. Bore - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Art of Shogi (Paperback)
If you have discovered basic shogi and want to improve into a well skilled amateur, this is the perfect book. If you have played chess before you can also make this your first poker book and skip the other more basic books. It contains a detailed overview of the most common opening strategies and will teach you how to attack and defend in different ways. It is also a great book to come back to after having played in your club or on the net (www.shogidojo.com) for a while to read up on yet another opening strategy. Great buy! Later move on to: "Habu's word" by Habu, "Better moves for better shogi" by Teruichi Aono and "How to defend in shogi" by Yasuharu Oyama to improve further. For the last one see:(http://www.shogi.net/nexus/ukekata/index.html).
