This book is a continuation of the book "Art at the turn of the
Millenium". It follows exactly the same format. Each artist has
four pages of photographs dedicated to his or her work. There is also a small paragraph about the artist and a mug shot of the artist's
head. Unfortunately, the problems with the origional book have
carried through to this one. The captions to the pictures are unhelpfull, especially with installation and film work and there is little quality writing about the artist in question. However,
the book is extremely concentrated and none (as far as I can see)
of the works featured in the origional book are featured here,
even though many of the artists are. The works on show are thus
those since 2000 or there about. It is however, extremely good value and contains much material which is unavailable outside
art magazines and gallery brochures over the last few years.
If you liked the origional book then this is more of the same, and it's just as good as the last one, if not better!
However, those wanting to begin learning about modern art would
be well advised to look elsewhere. For some artists, the entries
may well mean nothing to you if you don't know at least something about those artists or have seen their exhibitions.

As with all Taschen art books, this has beautiful and huge colour prints throughout and is a facinating look at a little bit about vast varieties of different modern artists. Extremely interesting, even for those with no interest in art.

Keep Pace with the Changing Art Scene

What is 'contemporary art' - a question whose answer changes almost on a daily basis - is the topic that floods the pages of this every fine Taschen Book. Edited by Uta Grosenick this generously illustrated volume is about as democratic as a survey can be. The artists discussed are those before the public today and are presented in the alphabetical listing that precludes lumping them into sub-schools.
So after all 'What is contemporary art?' For the novice or for the art historian this book manages to introduce the names and images of works flooding the galleries and museums today, and give succinct biographies, exhibition histories and bibliographic information along with very well selected image examples. Doubtless every reader will make some new discoveries of artists from odd locales, but the overall result of thumbing through this book is a healthy introduction to what is happening now. Art Now Volume 2 is coming on the market soon - to further enhance or confuse those who need to feel on the moving edge of what is happening in the art world today. It promises to be even better than this volume. Grady Harp, March 06

FANTASTIC ARTISTIC INDEX!!

Big book with beatyfull fullcolor prints.
It`s a good way to know the new names of the artist world, and check the works of this people. But the theories and the concepts about each artist aren't so deep.
This Good book offer a general idea, It's all rigth to had like a artistic index . Anyway, I check a lof of this text and it has been usefull for me.
