ART NOW VOLUMES 1 & 2 presented fresh new art in a clean, exciting and informative way. Much was innovative and much international. ART NOW 3 does the same but less so. A real disappointment. If you want to read about artists whose life history you know backwards then this is the book for you.
There is more emphasis on the home market and the the now not so YBA bandwagon - Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, Chris Ofili,Tim Noble and Sue Webster all fearure.
Internationally - there is a fair smattering of also ran, second-raters like Frank Nitsche, Albert Oehlen and Kara Walker - but by and large this is a compendium of the great and the good. With such luminaries as Cindy Sherman,Jeff Wall, Luc Tuymans, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Wilhelm Sasnal, Paul McCarthy, Jeff Koons, Mike Kelley, Andreas Gursky, OLafur Eliasson, Richard Prince, it makes all the mistakes that VOLUMES 1 & 2 avoided and so reads like the butt end of a good idea that has run it's course .
ART NOW VOLUME 3 has nothing to do with Art "now". This is a WHO'S WHO of the art establishment. And who will ART NOW VOLUME 4 feature - I'm taking bets on Monet!
