5.0 out of 5 stars Golden Stone, 31 Aug 2008
By The Wolf (uk) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
That Ms Stone (nee Brown) has never quite hit the BIG big time is a mystery.

Her 2006 appearance on Celebrity Fit Club would not necessarily have helped matters.

The real reason however is more likely to be a musical one.
Ms Stone's choice of material is just a little too far to the left of the mainstream to
have guaranteed her a place in the pantheon of great soul divas.

Uncompromising quality lays at the heart of her previous three releases and
'The Art Of Love And War' is no exception.

The warm, laid-back, velvety quality of her voice imbues all 14 tracks of this
splendid little album with a soft golden sheen.
Her tone, phrasing and the fluid elegance of her consummate interpretive
ability are never anything less than classy and credible.

Standout tracks include beautiful opening song 'Take Everything In' -
vintage Stone; 'Baby', a softly lilting duet with Betty Wright; 'These
Are The Reasons', with its' gorgeously layered vocal harmony arrangement;
the upbeat, short-but-sweet 'Play Wit It', an R&B barnstormer worthy of
comparison with the estimable Ms Khan; 'Wait For Me', for my money, the
sweet beating heart and soul of this fine new project.

The suberb musicianship and production skills evident on the album
are consistently slick and sympathetic throughout.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Angie's Best Album Yet !!, 13 Nov 2007
By Wookie "soul music fan" (Petts Wood, Kent) - See all my reviews
Angie has produced some cracking albums in the past, but this goes straight to the top of the list in my view. Stand outs for me are the sublime "Baby", the awesome "My people" with the much loved vocals of James Ingram and "Pop pop". However, I do feel guilty picking out just these because this is the real deal... all killer no filler. This set works on every level and I think is a must for an soul music fan. Just buy it and look forward to the gigs early in 2008 (as promised at the recent Jazz Cafe shows).

Angie Stone isn't an artist to put aside and i must say ALL her albums have great elements but this 4me is a complete Angie Stone Album no song on the album is skippable(IMO).
This album is like a journey through her past albums to this point and i was more than impressed.
I have my ultra favs from the album but i find myself playing the whole album be4 i go back to those favs.

All i can say to sum this up as is Soul(Smooth Groove) music at its best and a must to be in the collection of classic CD's
