From the Author

First of its kind, a hands on training manual on lighting.
In practicing lighting design for the past 20 plus years for the custom residential market, I realized that a book of this magnitude was critical to the forward progress of the industry. Lighting Design is one of the most exciting elements in homes today and it is equally rewarding when the client can witness and experience the fruits of the lighting designer's labors. Myself and others involved in this exclusive industry have largely been educators due to the fact that there was no forum. It has been our responsibility to inform the architects, interior designers and ultimatly the homeowners of the benefits of a well planned lighting system. The difficult part of our industry is that there is very little (or no) training, schooling, publications or other means that specifically focus on residential lighting design. So, without a program in place or a manual to refer to, I realized I should bring this exciting, rewarding practice to the forefront. The Art of Illumination, Residential Lighting Design is a hands on guide book for all residential design and construction disaplines. It is also a wonderful resource depicting some of the world most exclusive homes of which I have had the pleasure to illuminate. This is a must have resource, I hope you enjoy it!

Gerald Cantor and Aaron Spelling. In The Art of Illumination: Residential Lighting Design, Glenn Johnson teaches the art and science of lighting design that he has practiced for more than 20 years. Look inside this long-overdue resource, and there are breathtaking examples from Johnson's own portfolio, along with previously unavailable details on how to apply light to aesthetically enhance each area of a home.
