5.0 out of 5 stars About This Book..., 14 Nov 2011
By Theseus "theseus" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Art and Craft of Drawing (Hardcover)
The Hacker Art Books 1971 edition is a facsimile reprint of Blake's crucial 1927 tome on drawing, released by Oxford in 1927.

Here's the elegant, word-heavy and positively 19th century subtitle for the book: "A Study Both of the Practice of Drawing and of Its Aesthetic Theory as Understood Among Different Peoples and at Different Epochs; Especial Reference Being Made to the Construction of the Human Form from the Practial Draughtsman's Point of View".

This bit of prose emphasizes that Blake's book is historical the examples it uses, but fails to communicate just what a deliciously practical book this is. Indeed, Vernon Blake's work has been broken up into smaller bits and reprinted in various titles over the years.

414 pp of heavy, creamy stock; b&w illustrations. 3.5 pounds.

Anatomical Index and General Index.
