Putting the passion back into care-coordination!, 24 April 2009
This review is from: The Art of Co-ordinating Care: A Handbook of Best Practice for Everyone Involved in Care and Support (Hardcover)
Following on from the indispensable Assertive Outreach, A Strengths Approach To Policy And Practice, Steve Morgan examines how care coordination under CPA has evolved into a risk averse, bureaucratic, form filling exercise that leaves the service user feeling marginalized at best. In its place he offers a fresh approach to what he rebrands as an 'art'. Steve challenges the reader to think creatively, turning the process on it's head so that the service user is both the director of and at the centre of their 'film'.
The art of co-ordinating care is a readily accessible book that allows the reader to explore often complex themes through the use of film analogies, reflective exercises and the philosophy of the strengths model. In addition the book offers a host of tips and suggestions, alongside example tools, such as personal safety plans, and reviews that embody service user involvement from the start, not as an afterthought in attempt to tick the good practice box.
Is it possible to make this mandatory reading for all professionals entering the social care field and for those of us already there?
