Product Description

Jon Kabat-Zinn shines as a wise, down-to-earth, and just plain fun guide to our own basic goodness. His is a sensible - and sensational - wake up call, one we should all heed. (Daniel Goleman, author of Emotional Intelligence. Coming to Our Senses IS A deeply optimistic BOOK, grounded in GOOD Science AND filled with practical recommendations for moving in The right direction.’)

Product Description

Mindfulness opens us up to the possibility of being fully human as we are, and of expressing the humane in our way of being. Mindlessness de facto closes us up and denies us the fullness of our being alive. This book may on the surface appear to be merely another offering in the genre of daily readings. But deep within these 108 selections lie messages of profound wisdom in a contemporary and practical form that can lead to both healing and transformation. We so urgently need to rotate in consciousness in order to safeguard what precious sanity is available to us on this planet. How we carry ourselves will determine the direction the world takes because, in a very real way, we are the world we inhabit. Our world is continuously being shaped by our participation in everything around us and within us through mindfulness. This is the great work of awareness. Welcome to the threshold . . . to the fullness of arriving at your own door!

5.0 out of 5 stars A gem of a book 15 Jun 2011
Wonderful little book that I first heard Oprah Winfrey speak about when she interviewed Jon Kabat-Zinn on her Soul Series. She said that she keeps a copy on her bedside and also puts one on each of her guests bedside tables when they stay over. I dip into at least a page of this or Letting Everything Become Your Teacher, each day for an insightful doze of Mindfulness. I would love to see this available for the UK Kindle market too! Would also recommend buying the audio version of Coming to our Senses for a slightly condensed version of the main book.

JKZ is so very gifted at expressing simple truths about our levels of awareness, from moment to moment. I use this little book almost daily, to pick out a page and ponder on the wisdom expressed, and carry that with me throughout the day

1.0 out of 5 stars False packaging 12 Jun 2012

Please be aware that this is being sold as a Jon Kabat-Zinn book, as excerpts from Coming To Our Senses. It IS NOT Jon Kabat-Zinn who has compiled this book, but Hor Tuck Loon, "a Dharma friend, [Jon Kabat-Zinn] has yet to meet" and who is thanked "for the concept, design and execution of this book."

Another thing is the "Buddhist Light" implications, with Hor Tuck Loon being a Dharma friend and the choice of "108" lessons. Not in accordance with the Eightfold Path, my friends!

Very good - simple, short chapters to read when you can snatch the time in a busy day.I've already ready it 3 times. I'm buying a copy for my Mum (a young 82) who lives alone. Highly recommend.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not his best. 2 May 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I'm a big fan of mindfulness, and heard that this little book was highly useful. I had read the author's famous title "Full Catastrophe Living", which was life changing. However, this book is mostly full of little excerpts that don't make much sense to me (and I love myesterious/spirtual/esoteric writing!). So far I've only found a few excerpts which have been of use to me on cultivating mindfulness. Get full catastrophe living if you want you learn to meditate.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mindfulness
Not as good as I anticipated. Some of the language is a bit ambigous especially the one about pain. It doesn't actually seem to mean anything as a piece of writing. Read more
