This album is Cream very nearly at its best. Gary Moore lines up with Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce to recreate the sparkle and wizardry of Cream. Great material and great playing combine to make this album one of the best. The style is the same and Moore may have been described as Clapton without the passion but it doesn't show through here.

I write this in the aftermath of the great jack bruce's death. For me, bruce was the ultimate bass player and one of the greatest ever rock vocalists. Cream, along with hendrix, were the acts who put the 'heavy' into rock and the music they created in those short 3 or 4 years remains timelessly brilliant

But as much as i love him - jacks work outside cream has been very hit and miss. The very best of his work has been in collaboration with robin trower with the BLT albums and the epic 'seven moons' release a few years back. I was very excited by the formation of west, bruce and laing, but both those albums were a strange dissapointment and failed to live up to their potential. likewise with this BBM release. Its a very strange album indeed. A couple of ballads which are quite interesting without really saying much. A couple of very corny blues-rockers. And 4 songs which so very much steal riffs and melodies from creams back catalogue that i really did think that the boys were having a wind-up!

Thus - 'waiting in the wings' is 'white room'
'city of gold' is 'crossroads
'high cost of loving' is 'born under a bad sign'
and 'why does love have to go wrong' is 'we're going wrong'

None of this means its a bad album. How can it be bad with such towering talent on offer? - but as with WB&L and jacks solo work in general, it just never really catches fire.

Would love to have seen jack really get into some heavier work in recent years. Maybe collaborations with tony iommi or jimmy page!(the mind boggles!)- Alas we will never see that. But this is taking nothing away from the great mans legacy. This guy was the founding father of heavy rock man! let that never be forgotten. And with cream, he has left a body of music that will never die

This is one of those albums thats always in my car. Its dangerous because I lose myself in it to the concern of other drivers! I have been known to repeat Why does love have to go wrong three times before being sated.
The updating of the Cream style is just stunning with Moore's beguiling guitar, Bakers maniacal drumming and Bruces voice. I don't know how I stumbled on this but I did my duty and alerted several of my friends to it for which they thanked me.
Its up there with Hotel California and Harvest Moon.

This is an absolutely brilliant cd for anybody who likes blues music. It doesn't contain a single bad track. Such a shame that it was a one off.
