Anyone who lives in, or has lived in, Penge will be fascinated by this fine collection of photographs from Penge's past. A book to dip into again and again--constantly noting features in the photos that you didn't notice before. A quality production.

excellent 'Heros' section,

This book covers all the stuff about Paxtons Crystal Palace that you would expect, and can find elsewhere. What makes this book stand out is the mini biographies about not just the local rich and famous, the great and good are here too under the 'Heros' section. It is particularly good at the 1900's and is drawn from local knowledge backed by research. Published in 2004, Penge is already very different now.

This book is a must buy for any person who is researching local history in this part of london. All the information given is so informative and the fact that it is coupled together with authentic photographs of which were loaned to the author from past and present residents makes this book very special indeed. I would recommend it to anyone.
