I read this book from cover to cover. It's an informative piece of work from one of the grandma's (no offence, Shirley!) of aromatherapy. Particularly liked the chemistry section as it was well explained. Shirley Price has a wealth of experience, which she draws upon 99% of the time. This kind of writing has worth, but my only criticism (hence 4 stars instead of 5) is that, because of this, the book does tend to lack references to clinical trials; something which we need more of in aromatherapy.

Good all-round book that gives a solid basis for understanding aromatherapy. Includes chapters on history, production, botanical families, chemistry, therapeutic usages of specific oils, with useful tables. A highly readable and useful book from one of the "grand old ladies" in the aromatherapy field. Beginners can benefit, but I think that the book is aimed at potential and practicing aromatherapists. Regarding the title, I thought that it meant a booklet where I could fill in the blanks, etc. However, her meaning seems to be a reference for people who are working with aromatherapy.

Am really enjoying reading this book . The section on history is very good and easy to read. The uses of individual oils are given in the form of charts rather than a page per oil, which makes a useful and speedy reference although you may need a magnifying glass as the type is very small. I don't agree with some of the criticisms made against modern drugs as I for one would be long dead and buried without them. We actually do live much longer lives these days in spite of all the food additives and pollution etc that many complimentary health gurus rail against and owe a lot to modern drugs, yes we may die of side effects from them eventually but that's usually after we've lived an extra 20 or 30 years or so thanks to them. Apart from that This is one of the best aromatherapy books i've read.
