Product Description

The first aromatherapy guide to synthesize Eastern and Western approaches to restoring emotional and mental health.

- Explains the esoteric and energetic healing properties of 40 essential oils to help restore balance to the body and psyche.

- Provides help for a wide range of common emotional and mental complaints.

- Includes full-color illustrations to guide readers through the massage and acupressure sequences.

In this unique synthesis of Eastern and Western healing approaches, Gabriel Mojay combines the practice of aromatherapy with the wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine. Mojay explains the esoteric and energetic healing properties of 40 essential oils and shows how they can be used to manipulate qi, the body's vital energy, to stimulate healing from negative emotional and mental states. Some forms of nervous tension, for example, are caused by stagnant qi energy, which can be released with essential oils.

"Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit" provides help for a wide range of common emotional and mental complaints--including depression, low energy, lack of concentration, poor memory, anxiety, and low self-esteem. Easy-to-reference charts and full-color illustrations teach simple aromatherapeutic massage and acupressure techniques that restore balance to the body and psyche.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring combination of Oriental Medicine & Essential Oils, 29 April 2004
This review is from: Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit: Restoring Emotional and Mental Balance with Essential Oils (Paperback)
As a practicing aromatherapist myself I regularly delve into 'Aromatherapyfor Healing the Spirit' as a reference guide. However, I would considerGabriel's book useful for anyone interested in Aromatherapy.
This is a book that not only contains a comprehensive description of 40essential oils, but also discusses the energetic relationship these oilshave with the Oriental system of meridians and the five elements.
The beginning of the book gives a general overview in several clear andeasy to read chapters. The last few chapters concentrate on a range ofpsychological and emotional imbalances, such as depression and anxiety. Aselection of essential oils and various accupressure techniques aresuggested for each of these conditions.
It is a fascinating book which is informative and sensitively written andI have found its contents accurate time and time again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gem of a book, 18 Dec 2011

This review is from: Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit: Restoring Emotional and Mental Balance with Essential Oils (Paperback)
This is one of those rare books that surpassed my expectations. This is not your typical aromatherapy book and this book contains practically no recipes (it has just a few). What you'll find in this book is about 40 of the most-popular aromatherapy essential oils brought to life. The author does this successfully by looking at the essential oils from the perspective of the Chinese five-elements, and by juxtaposing the essential oils with archetypes from mythology, religion and astrology, helping you to experience the "personality" of each essential oil.

The author goes over some common psychological and emotional issues that people experience and suggests which essential oils may be most suitable. The book also contains a couple of illustrated pages related to applying massage and accupressure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for understanding essential oils!, 14 Jan 2005
By Aromayogi - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit: Restoring Emotional and Mental Balance with Essential Oils (Paperback)
I love this book. I am a Registered Aromatherapist who prepares blends for physical, mental, and emotional well being. The author writes with such detail that the oils become alive with their own personalities. The beginning is a brief explanation of Aromatherapy, Oriental medicine and Astrology. This is followed by a wonderful Materia Medica with explanations of 37 oils. Each oil is described in two pages which include a brief botanical description, ancient uses, oriental uses of a physical, emotional and spiritual nature, and an astrological description. He gives suggestions for oils along with detailed explanations for nervous tension, overthinking and worry, anxiety and apprehension, poor concentration and memory, lack of confidence and self-esteem, anger and frustration, disempowerment and indecision, depression and negativity, and problems in relating. I refer to this book often.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional Aromatherapy, 22 July 2000

This review is from: Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit: Restoring Emotional and Mental Balance with Essential Oils (Paperback)
In my opinion, this is the finest exploration of the emotional uses of essential oils in print today, and I'm delighted it has been reissued. Gabriel's overview of TCM and how it applies to aromatherapy is thought provoking; but it is in his descriptions of the emotions and of the oils that his work truly shines.

This book is a must have for anyone interested in healing on levels beyond the purely physical.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Coverage of Aromatherapy & TCM, 11 May 2000
By Deborah Layton - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit: Restoring Emotional and Mental Balance with Essential Oils (Paperback)
Having read Gabriel's articles on how to utilize aromatherapy in concert with the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, I was thrilled to find he had published this gem of a book. Although its approach works best for those who have studied acupuncture or Chinese herbology, it is also for those with a little familiarity with shiatsu or 5 element theory. He does a good job of explaining 5 element theory for those completely unfamiliar with Chinese medicine, too. The descriptions of essential oils and how they are to be used is most useful for psychoemotional difficulties, but sufficient info on physical uses is included. I highly recommend this book to people with an interest in both aromatherapy and Chinese medicine, though any aromatherapy practitioner will glean new and useful information.
