Best in the World 4 Feb 2009
I first saw the Red Army Choir in the 1960's at the Royal Albert Hall.
They were magnificent then and just as fantastic now. I am delighted with the dvd and will probably wear it out soon!. I will never tire of it. If all the armies of the world would just sing at each other instead of fighting, what a wonderful world it would be. All the best of luck to the Choir, each and every one of them. They are wonderful.

Memories of Red Army Choir performances stretch back into the mists of time, this is the first DVD performance I have experienced. The singing was up to the traditional standard, dance performances excellent but the general camera on the choir was rather patchy. Generally, individual performances from the choir were both amusing and entertaining. The Red Army Choir Orchestra And Dance Ensemble - Live In Paris [DVD]

Although this DVD was filmed at the same time as the A Concert for George DVD, it could have come from any time in the last 40 years. In fact, the same could be said for some of the choir members, many of whom looked decidedly uncomfortable in their uniforms. As each number ended, one could hear voices talking-were these the voices of the singers muttering to each other between each piece?
I had expected a larger choir, and a more spectacular performance; perhaps they were inhibited by the language barrier-there was no spoken dialogue, and if there was any warmth flowing from performers to audience, the film did not reflect this.
The dancers looked cheap and tacky and would have been better suited to a circus, or the ersatz performances put on for the benefit of tourists. I already have a CD of music by this choir, and to watch the DVD does nothing to enhance the music.
