Product Description

Review

"Osprey's books on armored trains and units of the Russian Civil War (RCW) are simply awesome. The Armored Units books have information about each side's tanks, armored cars and train information... [and] discuss all of the armored vehicles... used by the Whites and Reds during the RCW... The information in these books is incredible; the photos provide invaluable information to allow gamers to construct or convert vehicles or additions to trains to suit their wargaming needs." -Michael Koznarsky, "Historical Miniature Gamer "(Issue 11) "Very few books have been written, even in Russian, on armor in the Russian Civil War. This book, along with its companion volume from Osprey, David Bullock's "Armored Units of the Russian Civil War: White and Allied," shed much new light on an overlooked phase in the development of armored fighting vehicles." -"Military Vehicles"

First Sentence
The number of tanks, armored trains and armored cars that participated in the Russian Civil War on all fronts, including all nationalities, certainly totaled less than 1,000 and probably not much more than 700. Read the first page

Historical value as it helps preserve a less well known aspect of military history.
Mention of many meaningless Russian units that would need complementary explaining.
Again Osprey has started a subject somewhere in the middle instead of laying a proper foundation first.
Hard to resell...
Not recommended unless a serious student of subject.

Haven't read this yet but if Mr Bullock's gushing review of his own opus proves to be in any way misleading I shall be pursuing him personally for a refund.

Be Warned.

Format: Paperback
For the first time, a team of international researchers (one American and two Russians) brings together the story of the armored units of the White Russians in each battle theater. These are the first color depictions of White armored trains world wide. Tanks and armored cars are also examined as well as their impact on the Russian Civil War. Even here, the authors and artist break fresh ground, providing the first examples of tanks and armored cars not seen before, carefully constructed from period photographs and contemporary descriptions. Amazingly, not one of these armored pieces remains inside Russia today in pristine, or indeed, other form. Dr. Bullock has devoted years of collection toward this topic. Mr. Deryabin, son of a famous Soviet general, is literally the founder of studies involving the White Armies. Mr. Aksenov is Russia's most renowned illustrator of armored subjects. Highly recommended. Superb collection and resell value should this edition ever go out of print. Collectors' item!

Excellent Epilogue to WW1 armoured warfare 8 Jan. 2013
By Lev Murynets - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
A pioneering work on the subject, excellent work bringing an understudied period of armoured warfare to light.
Would recommend it to anyone with an interest in the Russian Civil war's Military, Armoured Warfare or Warfare in general.
The book paints a concice analysis of the epilogue of the first world war and makes a great companion to existing military analytical works. Its only weakness could be that it is a specialist book, and while someone without a working knowledge of the Russian Civil War can pick it up and gain useful information from it, a lot of context would be lost.

Extremely pleased with the book, having just completed an Armoured Warfare module as well as a Russian Civil War one

A great work 30 Nov. 2007
By James D. Crabtree - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
There are just too few books on the Russian Civil War for my tastes. This book addresses armored forces in the service of the Whites (and if there are few books on the Civil War there are far fewer on the White cause) and the Allies. French and British models shipped in to Russia before Brest-Litovsk and used to fight the Bolsheviks and their bloody cause.

Though small this book is packed with information and uses lots of rare photos.
