This is a mine of uniform information for the enthusiast --Miniature Wargames

Product Description

Contrary to popular belief, the capture of India was not accomplished by the British Army, but by the private armies of the East India Company, which grew in size to become larger than that of any European sovereign state. This is the history of this army, examining the many conflicts they fought, their equipment and training, with its regiments of horse, foot and guns, which rivalled those of most European powers. The uniforms, combining traditional Indian and British dress are illustrated in detail and make for a colourful account of a private band of adventurers that successfully captured the jewel of the British Empire.

A good job done with excellent plates. It would have got 5 stars if it had dealt with each period of the HEIC to the same standard. The major conflicts of the two Sikh Wars seem to have got a bit lost! For those interested in the arnies of Wellesley and Lake, its a vaulable piece of research. Those looking for later info would be far better off with John French's book on the British in India - which deserves six stars!

Essentially a precis of information contained in the bibliography, it is a very handy and well produced handbook particularly for those keen on military models. The coloured pages of the various uniforms worn during the period are the main attraction.
