5.0 out of 5 stars A useful little pocketbook, 17 Jan 2007
By T. A. Gordon "tag-essex" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Another little gem from Charles Heyman, that maintains the consistency of quality seen in previous items.

It's quite invaluable to many, including all those 'armchair-strategists' who take the TV media and politicians at face value. It makes worthwhile reading to understand not just what we now have as the frontline assets to protect our way of life and the nation's culture and heritage, but also the philosophies and plans for the future.

Inside you will find the usual fare of lists on units, budgets, personnel, equipment and a few snapshot profiles of the men in command. What I found to be most useful was the written discussions on what to expect with future defence plans and the rationale behind those decisions. If you seriously want to understand our armed forces obligations, this makes a very handy little starter book, and a useful pocket reference guide.
