5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best episodes - well worth the price I paid for it, 3 Dec 2011
This review is from: Armchair Thriller Vol.7 - The Circe Complex [DVD] (DVD)
Armchair Thriller was a British TV mystery classic series, and a prime-time ratings hit in England in the late 1970s, with 17 million viewers - the episodes are generally quite enjoyable even today. The Circe Complex is one of the better ones. The intriguing plot by author Desmond Cory (author of Deadfall, and Fedora espionage series) keeps you interested, and provides a great ending. The acting is also quite good, although the series does look a little dated.

This series sees jeweller, Tom Forman, stealing half a million pounds worth of jewels, but in the getaway he kills a policeman. He is caught and imprisoned. His wife Val entices (with her sexual charms) his psychiatrist, Ollie Milton, to find out a way to get Tom out of prison and get hold of the gems. Beth Morris as Val Forman pulls off (among other things) a memorable performance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enid Blyton, 16 July 2011

I enjoyed this. It was not boring like some of the stories in this series. However, as soon as it was established in the 1st or 2nd episode that the wife worked in a waxworks museum I knew the answer to the riddle. I had read the same idea in a story written by Enid Blyton in 1947: The Mystery of the Missing Necklace. The author may have consciously or unconsciously remembered this ingenious idea. It spoilt the surprise at the end, really.

5.0 out of 5 stars Six episodes of classic television, 6 Oct 2008

This review is from: Armchair Thriller Vol.7 - The Circe Complex [DVD] (DVD)
The Circe Complex is a six part story in the popular Armchair Thriller series. The basic plot concerns a psychiatrist Ollie played by Alan David (The Green Green Grass, Doctor Who) who with Val Foreman (wife of Tom who is serving life for murder) plan to spring Tom (Trevor Martin)from prison. The reason behind this Tom stole a cache of jewellery which was never found and they want to get their hands on it. There is alot more to the plot including murder, betrayal and a good old fashioned frame up.

The story moves at a good pace without dragging too much. Some of the sets seem a little dated but that is a sign of the times. The cast is pritty good with Alan David giving a superb performance is the deluded psychiatrist. This is an excellent piece of classic television - those were the days of decent suspence tv.
