This is the third book in the first trilogy of the latest (at time of writing) reincarnation of the Buck Rogers franchise. It builds on the previous two by charting the interstellar war between the factions led by the main planets (Mars, Earth, Venus and Mercury) as well as including various loose cannons - pirates, rebellious princess, mercenary Kane and scheming Ardala. There are some good parts - I liked the crawling around a satellite and the encounter with a 'dancer' on Mercury, but the majority is the movement of huge space battleships as they engage with each other and the one man fighters. As such it lacks some of the slower scenes and exotic locations of the previous two, and I got fed up reading about chaff. That is the tiny bits of metal that can confuse instrumentation and lasers, and it is used on nearly every page. The story is OK but the focus on space battle makes it dull.
