5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, Informative, and Colorful 24 Dec 2010

"A is for Armageddon is a catalogue of a catalogue of disasters that are ready to befall the Earth and ultimately the human race. It has been designed, illustrated and written to give a concise guide of what to expect in the coming days, months, years and centuries. The book covers subjects that are way beyond our control, issues that have been caused or accelerated, directly or indirectly, by humankind's many busy hands and other situations that are just plain ridiculous. Written, illustrated and designed with an optimistically pessimistic twang, A is for Armageddon highlights what you should be looking out for, when you should be panicking, and just how long you've got before we're all due to visit the big dead dodo sanctuary in the sky."

I purchased this book because I have a fondness for Futurology, but was unaware that A is for Armageddon is actually a quasi-scientific, quasi-hilarious, quasi-snarky information packed directory of every imaginable disaster out there; I wasn't expecting it to be so funny. Subjects as diverse as Phil Plaits - Death from the Skies!: These Are the Ways the World Will End . . ., to Jared Diamond's - Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed: Revised Edition, to Rev. Hagee's - Financial Armageddon: We are in a battle for our very survival..., it's all in there. Plus, just about every page contains some colorful graphic, illustration, chart, or image, which is usually hysterical. In sum, this is a great book for encouraging Existential angsts in a style that only a Brit could pull-off.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Worth Bathroom Reading; Bought Online but Left on Plane to be Thrown Away 24 Oct 2013

Bought thinking this was a book cataloging disasters with some information and basis in reality. It's purported in some reviews to be something non-fiction but it's a complete quasi parody, and I guess that the author thinks he is writing something slightly clever or amusing, but I found it just plain stupid. I bought online using a mobile device so I didn't have the chance to preview. What a disappointment; took it with me on a flight to read and although a brand new barely touched book, I couldn't convince myself that it was worth the effort of putting it back into my bag; i left it on the plane to be thrown away.
4.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Comedy of Disasters 4 Dec 2012
By Leslie J. Wilson - Published on Amazon.com

This is a really fun book, although it doesn't include Zombies and there are some editorial errors. The tongue in cheek comments of the author increase the readability. Not an in depth compendium, it presents more of an overview with a dry, witty, commentary. Part of every disaster/armageddon reading list, if only for the satire and wit included.
5.0 out of 5 stars A is for Armageddon 18 May 2011

This book is a very interesting read. I'm not big on science knowledge, but this is a great way to learn about all the sciences and the universe. I really enjoyed it and it was written with a good bit of tongue in cheek humor. Very educational.
