Product Description

Product Description

New Album from instrumental rock/fusion trio & supergroup, THE ARISTOCRATS!

About the Artist

The word supergroup is tossed around a lot in instrumental music circles, the result of a seemingly endless supply of efforts to package together individual virtuoso players and make a band out of them. But every once in a while, the group part of that shopworn term becomes authentic and real. Such is the case with The Aristocrats guitarist Guthrie Govan, bassist Bryan Beller, and drummer Marco Minnemann who defiantly and joyously blow the supergroup stereotype to bits, thrilling audiences and fans around the world in the process with a preternatural band chemistry that equals exponentially more than the sum of its parts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jazz Fusion instrumental 18 Oct 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Guthrie Govan is recognised as a very talented instrumental guitarist, with Bryan Beller on bass and Marco Minnemann.on drums. Very tight band with a bluesy, jazzy and rocky feel to their music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Out of this world sonic nirvana 30 July 2013
By WillieB - Published on
Format:Audio CD
For me, this release took time to sink in because there is so much going on. Not just shredding but dynamics and melody that gives your brain a workout. Then it clicked - holy crap this is an incredible collaboration of sonic nirvana! Every song on "Culture Clash" is killer and has its own personality. Whether rock, fusion, techno, rockabilly, or prog-metal, these tunes are clever and well thought out with arrangements to die for. The disc clocks in just over 57 minutes, all instrumental, and each band mate wrote three songs. You can get lost in these songs and shouldn't focus too long on one instrument because the sum is better than its parts. The songwriting is bolder and more aggressive than their debut release and the interplay between musicians is so tight and flawless it will leave your jaw on the floor. This is one of a few instrumental discs I can listen to over and over without it getting old.

The Deluxe Edition includes a 33 minute "making of" DVD documentary with interviews and studio footage. The good news from this footage is the band gets along and no egos dominate, so fans may see more tours and albums down the road. In the documentary Bryan, Marco and Guthrie describe their different production and writing styles. You will find out the inspiration for Marco's tune "Ohhhh Noooo", and learn how to make Bryan's favorite cocktail. I also noticed how humble and down to earth these guys are.

This is a high quality total package. Great tunes, musicianship, engineering, documentary, and artwork that every music fan should own.

5.0 out of 5 stars This IS how you do it!! 30 July 2013

Format:Audio CD
"Culture Clash" is the sophomore studio album by the wunderkind threesome 'The Aristocrats'. Bryon, Marco and Gutherie are at it again, crafting progressive rock, fusion, blues and whatever else they can think of and they play the HELL out of their instruments. This may not be for the weak-hearted or the ones raised on FM auto-tuned, crappy, bar band cover music, but for us TRUE listeners and fans of this know that this is how it's done. Miles Davis it isn't. But, like the first release, this one will leave you going 'WHAT was THAT?' Is it toe tapping? Sure! There are toe tapping parts. Will the hooks stay in your head? Oh yeah! You may be hitting your rewind button to hear a particular phrase again. Is it just for musicians and like-minded people? Well, it is quite progressive and not everyone will approve of it. And that's ok with me. The Aristocrats are like a well-kept secret, passed around from those have discovered them and have seen them burn it up live. They have upped the ante on this one and I feel this belongs on any musicians shelf of great discs. Buy it if you want something out of the norm and goes against the establishment! Great stuff!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, I love this 16 Aug 2013

Builds on the first CD amazingly well. This CD may be the more complex of the two, but it is still toe tapping, catchy, and twitch inducing at the same time. I'm not sure how much to write here, because if you've found this CD, you are probably buying it, but if you are in doubt, do it. Jazz-prog-rock-abilly-blues-fusion-metal is quite the entertaining genre when the musicians are this impressive. Maybe we should just name the genre Aristocratic.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Cant Stop Playing This Disc! 28 Sep 2013
By Avid Listener - Published on
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I learned about this band through being a fan of Steven Wilson. I'm no fan boy though, my comments are objective.

There are many facets to the arrangements of each song on the album. However the songs have excellent direction and are exhilarating. Govan, Beller and Minnemann are virtuoso musicians (these guys are killer players!!) yet they have exceptional synergy. They interact well as a band and you get the sense they are zoned on the success of material not their individual playing.

The disc has good resolution/is well recorded. As the title of this review stated, I can't stop playing this disc and that is not usual for me. If you like progressive rock fusion, you definitely will not be disappointed.

By the way, I have their first album on order......

5.0 out of 5 stars Guthrie Govan for President....of Planet Earth! 1 Sep 2013
By Mark A. Cherry - Published on
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
If there are three more accomplished musicians alive than these guys, I'd sure like to know who they are. Chops up the wazoo; musical sophistication to make a Julliard or Berklee professor blush; and one hell of a sense of humor....all here. IMHO, even better than their debut album, "the Aristocrats"...and right up there with Guthrie Govan's "Erotic Cakes". If you don't need a singer to make the music live for you, but appreciate absolute musical virtuosity, check this one out.
