Product Description

Product Description

Jamie Oliver is Britain's best-loved chef. His matey charm and down-to-earth approach to cooking have made him a household favourite the length and breadth of the country. Having been honoured with an MBE in 2003, Jamie is now poised to receive the ultimate accolade - a knighthood from the Queen. Jamie rose from humble pastry chef to television star by catching the eye of producers during a documentary about the River Cafe, where he was working at the time. His onscreen charisma meant he featured heavily in the finished documentary; the offers came flooding in, and so The Naked Chef was born. The programme was a huge success, with an initmate and fresh approach to the television chef. Jamie's passion shone through and drew in a younger audience. Cooking became cool! His television series and books gave Jamie fame and fortune the world over, but he always wanted to do something positive with his success. Through his 'Fifteen' charity restuarant and campaigns to ban unhealthy food in schools and get Britain cooking again, Jamie has proven to be more than simply a celebrity chef. His desire to bring about radical change has seen him meet with top politicians and raise millions of pounds for his causes.

How disappointing! 2 Jan 2008
By T. Rose
Format:Hardcover
I feel that this book, written by two tabloid show biz/ gossip journalists is lacking material, insight and substance. The large print should have given me some warning. Any quote/ fact is padded out and repeated relentlessly, and there is nothing in it that has not been in the press. The real Jamie Oliver has been dumbed and numbed down, and the style of writing is patronising and facile. There is nothing in this book to convey the energy and charisma of the subject. I wonder if it was authorised? I feel that I have been really ripped off. Possibly the worst book of this genre that I have ever read. Buyer beware!

Disappointing 25 Jun 2008
By CA cook - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
As a fan of Jamie Oliver's cookbooks and television shows, I was looking forward to learning more about him, his influences and background. I was disappointed by the simplistic writing style and repetition of various stories throughout the book. Even though the book just came out (maybe it was released much earlier in the UK?) it doesn't seem very up to date - of the 281 pages, the authors don't get to the year 2001 until page 253 and then they describe the recent years (the birth of his daughters, creation of Fifteen, school lunch activism, etc.) pretty quickly and not in depth at all. I'm glad I got this one from the library and didn't purchase it!

Poorly Written Book 16 Feb 2009
By M. Wheeler - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
The level of writing in this book is like that of a primary school child. It's a hagiography, not a biography, with no criticism of Jamie whatsoever. But that shouldn't be a surprise - the title gives away the viewpoint of the book pretty clearly.

Although only published in 2007,the book was clearly written in 2000 or 2001. It concentrates almost exclusively on the first two years of Jamie's television career, and only the final couple of (brief) chapters cover the period of 2001 to 2007.

This is the most disappointing biography I have ever read - the authors are clearly trying to make a fast buck by cobbling together a lazily-researched and written book.
