Product Description

Experience the magical, mystical world that inspired the Aria anime...One-hundred and fifty years after its terraforming, Aqua, the planet formerly known as Mars, is now almost completely covered in water. A young girl named Akari Mizunashi lives in the city of Neo-Venezia, an exact replica of the old Italian city of Venice, where she works as a gondolier tour guide. While giving people tours of her beautiful city, Akari learns to appreciate her city when she helps an elderly tourist find his daughter, teaches a friend some history about ancient Venice and discovers the secret behind Aqua's unusual sun showers.

This is a sequel series to that of 'aqua' by Kozue Amano (which has not been released in the USA or UK) and follows Akari Mitzunashi, her mentor Alicia and her fellow trainee Aika as they explore the world of Neo Venezia set on Mars, through the profession of a gondalier.

The artwork is amazing, the storylines have been planned thoroughly and are not presented so much as chapters but as 'navigations'.

This is an up and coming manga series that any fan of the manga/ anime scene will not dismiss.

The only disappointment in the lack of a translation of the series before and the lack of merchandise.

This is a fantasy/science fiction manga based on planet "Aqua" (Mars). Akari who is from Earth (known as Man Home in the manga) is learning how to be an Undine in the town called "Neo Venezia". Undine's jobs are to act as guides of the city, rowing the gondolas along the canals of the touristic town. In the story, the readers discover Aqua and its fascinating habitants and cultures along with Akari who is new to the place. Nice drawings and it is almost as if we are learning about a whole new place.

At first the story may seem confusing as there are so much to take in but there is a list of vocabularies on the last page so you would understand the different names and words appeared in the book. The more you read, the more you will understand the story. The book may make you feel as if you are a visitor to the planet yourself as there are so many things to learn about it.

Technically this is Aqua Volume 3 (as I explained in my review of Aqua Volume 1) and so Akarichan's adventures continue from where they left off in Aqua Volume 2. However, even though Alicechan was introduced in the last chapter of Aqua 2 this was because it is an extra chapter added to give more depth to Aikachan's character, you will have to wait a bit longer in the series to be properly introduced to her and she is not in this volume at all.

On a different note Aria/Aqua merchandise is available in a large variety either directly from Japan or via the US over the internet, ebay is a good starting point.
