"There are spiritual story tellers and there are soulful story tellers. I hope to be a soulful story teller. I see the two kinds as two different directions. Spiritual is ascending. Sky, God and all that. I hope my story telling is going down into… Read more in Amazon's Jackie Leven Store

5.0 out of 5 stars the main mans a genius, 27 Jun 2005
This review is from: The Argyll Cycle, Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
if jackie leven had had the breaks some artists have been fortunate to have got, he and his beautiful heartfelt , almost holy music would be at the forefront of the folky world today.
jackie may not always use language that is easy on the brain but his honesty and poetic skills are abundant on this wonderful offering ,
sad and lonely songs of soul searching and lost love , may not be everyones cup of puke but if you can imagine the archangel whispering in your ear that he wants you to join him on a fantastic heavenly trip to an ethereal paradise , then this is the album for you .
go with the man !!!!.

5.0 out of 5 stars Go west young man !, 23 May 2009

This review is from: The Argyll Cycle, Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
Fifer Jackie Leven takes his musical caravan West to the jagged shores of Argyll and creates something of a masterpiece.
Jackie is the definition of a cult artist. When I saw him in Manchester last year the Academy 3 auditorium was mainly populated by middle ages males. Not sure why his brilliant oeuvre has not brought in a more diverse audience but then prophets are never heard in their own land until they are dead. Not that I wish such a fate on the big feller!
Having listened to most JL albums I would rank this up there with the best. Some absolutely beautiful mellow tracks and Iron John author Robert Bly throwing shafts of poetry into the mix, Incredible !

5.0 out of 5 stars Scottish Brilliance, 13 Jun 2005
By Byron Geoffrey Farrow - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Argyll Cycle, Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
Possibly one of Britain's best guitarists, this early album from Jackie Leven contains many great songs inspired by his the countryside of his upbringing in the Kingdom of Fife. Fantastic.
