Product Description

Matt is fascinated by the story of Argleton, the unreal town that appeared on GeoMaps but which doesn’t actually exist. No one knows how the mistake made its way into the most widely used map in the world. Accusations that it was a ‘copyright trap’ intended to catch out businesses using the map data without paying for a licence are vigorously denied. GeoMaps promises to remove the anomaly but yet, it persists.

Finally, Matt can resist no longer. He persuades his friend and flatmate Charlie to drive them both down to to find the non-existent town. And when they are standing on the very spot, at the exact longitude and latitude that defines Argleton, Matt sets in motion a chain of events that will take him places he didn’t know existed… and which perhaps don’t.

Delightful 22 Dec 2011
By Ephiny
Format:Kindle Edition
This novella-length work by was an absolute delight to read. Very tightly written, interesting plot, realistic dialogue, and characters so life-like I feel like I know them! Nice contrast between the super-smart geeky Charlie, and her easy-going friend Matt.

The story is a mystery/adventure tale of obsession, there are sci-fi elements but it feels very firmly rooted in our contemporary world of smartphones, wi-fi and virtual reality. The technical detail was accurate and made sense (unlike the 'techno-babble' you sometimes get in sci-fi and similar!)

Really enjoyed this, and I hope the author writes more in the future.

In love with maps 22 Nov 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
In every map there are deliberate errors, put there by the cartographers to catch out copyright cheats. These can be mistakes in coastlines, woods that don't exist and even made up towns. Such a place is Argleton. Or is it?

Matt is obsessed with tracking down the exact spot of the fictitious town of Argleton, but when he gets there and finds a Wi-Fi signal in the middle of an empty field, things start to turn strange.

Suw Charman-Anderson takes the idea of the town that never existed and weaves it into a wonderful tale of intrigue. A perfectly formed novella, it mixes elements of mystery, thriller, SF and even a little romance into a tight, easy to read package.

fields of infinity 9 Jan 2012
By rashbre
Format:Kindle Edition
Argleton takes a fantasy element, whilst hovering on the cusp of what is possible today.

We've all heard about deliberate map errors introduced by cartographers as a form of copyright protection. This takes the idea further and into the worlds of social networking and augmented reality.

But the start is very much in Britain's fair and pleasant land, with the thwack of cricket bats and green fields.

Except these green fields hold secrets.

A lively story featuring the technologically knowledgeable Matt and Charlie in a read that also poses interesting questions about the near future.
