Product Description

From the Publisher

Eating the foods that suit your metabolism
Meadow View Publications was set up by the author, specifically for the publication of this title. The aim was to make available a low cost book providing an alternative point of view to calorie counting diets. At the heart of the book is a test scorecard, devised by the author, which allows the reader to assess his or her metabolic rate. The book gives detailed advice on which are the best foods for fast and slow metabolism, plus information about vitamin and mineral supplements, exercise, etc. The benefits are not only weight loss without counting calories, but also feeling and looking really well.

From the Author

Your metabolic rate and the foods you should eat
Sorting out what we should and should not be eating is more involved than just sticking to the traditional healthy menues found in diet books and magazines. Reducing calorie intake may not work either. People have different metabolic rates, and this means there can't be just one diet that suits everyone. For example, people with a fast metabolism can usually cope with fatty foods, while those with a slow metabolism don't have problems with acidic foods like citrus fruit. But the other way round - slow metabolism and red meat, fast metabolism and citrus fruit - is likely to lead to all sorts of difficulties, including weight gain. So it is important to know what kind of metabolism you have, before you can make the right decisions on what you should and should not be eating. A simple scorecard test occupies the centre fold of my book, allowing you to make an assessment of your metabolic rate - fast or slow, or somewhere in between. The book also provides a wide range of dietary information, which can help you lose weight and improve health.

4.0 out of 5 stars A gem of a book and so simple, 12 Sep 2004
This review is from: Are You What You Eat?: Find Out If Your Metabolism is Fast or Slow Then Eat the Foods That Suit You to Lose Weight and Improve Your Health (Meadow View handbook) (Paperback)
I only received this book yesterday and am already convinced that this is the way forward. Recently I have been struggling to lose the final 1 stone needed to get me down to my perfect weight. I have tried Optimising, Low Fat, Atkins, The Gym all to no avail as I am stuck at my current weight with no gain and no loss. After reading what James Chalmers has to say it all sounds so simple yet so true. After taking into consideration Food Combining, Optimising, Atkins, Zone - what James tells us is that it can be so much simpler than all of those and something that can be a lifetime plan and not a diet. I am looking forward to some good results over the next few months. Only set back is that I wish the food lists had been longer to ensure no mistakes are made with such as potatoes and alcohol.

1.0 out of 5 stars Big claims from some slim pickings, 24 May 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Are You What You Eat?: Find Out If Your Metabolism is Fast or Slow Then Eat the Foods That Suit You to Lose Weight and Improve Your Health (Meadow View handbook) (Paperback)
This book really wasn't for me - its very slim and easy to whip through in an hour or two but there isn't much content to get your teeth stuck into or certainly to change your diet by. There is a 2 page questionnaire to complete that claims to show you whether you have a fast or slow metabolism, quite frankly half the questions were ridiculous and if you've flicked through the book quickly before starting it, you could easily bias yourself towards one or the other. The list showing the sort of foods you should/shouldn't be eating depending on your metabolism is anything but exhaustive.

Leaves more questions than answers I'm afraid. I'm sure the author was trying their best but it just wasn't good enough for me.
