Product Description

Doing well on IQ tests is no real determinant of how successful you will be oe even of how smart you actually are. There is more to intellect than logical, verbal, numerical and spatial ability. Other, more 'hidden' types of intelligence, which are difficult toquantify or qualify, are no less essential to our being able to solve problems and otherwise negotiate the challenges life throws at us. Now you can obtain a true picture of your innate abilities. This wide ranging and comprehensive collection of tests will help you discover your true capacity for interacting intelligently with the world and for succeeding in life. Surprise yourself with how smart you really are.

From the Author

Have you ever thought that there must be a better way of measuring success than IQ?
Do you feel that an IQ score doesn’t reflect true ability in real life?

Until the 1980s, the general view was that there was only one kind of intelligence - IQ - and that it remained fixed from birth throughout our lives. You are no longer restrained by that model. There is much more to intelligence than the traditional IQ components of logical, verbal, spatial and numerical ability. Emotional intelligence, personal knowledge, physical skill, creativity, musical aptitude and naturalistic empathy are all facets of intelligence, equally important to IQ for interacting successfully in the world. ‘Multiple intelligence theory’ holds that a world-class athlete is as intelligent as a professor of mathematics, and that a best-selling pop artist is as intelligent as a best-selling novelist.

My book contains over 150 tests to help you explore your strengths in all areas of intelligence, enabling you to profile your strengths and providing you with tips for boosting each aspect of intelligence. Once you are able to identify key strengths, you can then use them to your advantage in your individual quest for self-improvement, knowledge, and development. ‘Are you smarter than you think?’ sets out to show you just how smart you really are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Success in life is more than just IQ !!, 17 Aug 2003

Mrs M Barton (Kent, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Are You Smarter Than You Think? (Paperback)
I ordered this book after reading about it in the Daily Mail and hearing the author interviewed on LBC. I hoped to understand the various types of intellegence and discover skills that perhaps I wasn't making the most of.
The self test exercises were both clear and useful and the boosting tips that followed gave me specific advice on improving my weak areas.
The book is clear, well illustrated and very easy to access. I would recommend it to any one interested in self improvement.
This book could change your life for the better!!

5.0 out of 5 stars encouragement for all, 3 Sep 2003
This review is from: Are You Smarter Than You Think? (Paperback)
A book to give encouragement to all readers. Yes, we have more talent than we thought we had. The message is eloquently and firmly stated that there are many types of intelligence. So if we are not so clever in one area, we have compensating features elsewhere. What is more, advice for self-improvement is sensitively offered. Above all, the book is easy to read, even when it is describing the latest academic research; well-written with attractive art work, it would be much appreciated as a Christmas present.

3.0 out of 5 stars Misleading Title, 28 Jan 2008
By Beaumont Hardy "Beaumont Hardy Editing" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Are You Smarter Than You Think?: 160 Ways to Test and Enhance Your Natural Intelligence (Mass Market Paperback)
This book isn't as interesting as its title would suggest it is. In the end, it's a series of intelligence tests that don't seem to indicate whether or not you're smarter than you think you are. The tests each only have about five questions, and they're not very hard. I got the top score on almost all of them, so I know they're far too easy. The layout of the book is clear and attractive, and the book is mildly entertaining. Just don't expect a clear assessment of your true intelligence.
