5.0 out of 5 stars you have done very well 11 Mar 2005
This long-running sitcom (10 series, 69 episodes, transmitted between 1972 and 83) are set in the very old-fashioned Grace Brothers department store, owned by octagenarian Young Mr Grace (Harold Bennett). The programme deals with the working life of the staff of the Ladies' and Gent's Outfitting departments. Pompous Floorwalker, Captain Peacock (Frank Thornton), is in overall charge on the floor and Mr Rumbold (Nicholas Smith) is the not Manager. Gents' Outfitting is staffed by nearly retired Mr Grainger (Arthur Brough), gay Mr Humphries (John Inman) and sex-obsessed Mr Lucas (Trevor Bannister). Ladies' Outfitting is staffed by "left on the sheves" Mrs Slocombe (Mollie Sugden)whose Pussy (her cat!!) is her main concern, and young sexy and not to bright Miss Brahms (Wendy Richard).

You will laugh, laugh, laugh about this excellent stories. It is innocent fun. The caracters are stereotypes but just hilarious. The acting is superb. My favorite is Mollie Sugden in her role as Mrs Slocombe: "I am unanimous in this" in order to quote Mrs. Slocombe.
I liked it years ago and I still like it today. It is one of these few comedies which one can see when orginally released and years later. If you are free tonight , just watch it! You will just like it! And it does not ride up with wear (if you know what I mean) it just fits from the start.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why is USA first to get all episodes on DVD First? 21 April 2010
i love the programe But here in the uk we are still waiting for all series to come out on dvd but in the usa you can get the lot in either separate sets or in one box set like this one.
why is bbc releasing thier programes over there first rather then here in the uk where the bbc is?
series 9 is due to come out in may 2010 & yet all these which has come out in the usa has been out since 2003 & the reunion has already come out in the usa as well (grace & favour) & that's not out at all in the uk, it's been out since 2004 over there!.
come on bbc!.

5.0 out of 5 stars best comedy ever 24 July 2011
this is by far one of the funniest comedies i have ever seen, and this is the 2nd dvd box set to be released,as u can only get them over in the usa wich was the 10 disc dvd box set,and know you can get it again in the uas and also in the uk,but u need to set ur dvd to ntsc format in order to play these dvds, and this box set comes with 14 discs inside a box set wich comes with double or single disc holders,as im dont know myself, but im just guessing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Its simply the best !! 6 July 2009
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Its difficult to know where to start really. I always remember my parents watching this when i was a child and as i left school in the late 80's it was still a little to early for me to appreciate. Re-runs on gold in the late 90's made me realise that only fools and horses is no longer the greatest comedy ever, but this is. I had this bought for me as a present over 3 years ago and i can promise you that i watch one episode EVERY DAY !! It is the best and with the death of mollie sugden i can only hope that other people will buy this and watch it again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars i`m free 22 Mar 2006
are you beng served is my absolute favourite comedy the characters are hilarious and the depatment store too
my favourite is mr humphries i absolutely love him in his role i love his famous saying i`m free it`s hysterical although the other characters are good too as for the other stars i think mr lucas takes a better part than mr spooner he`s got the cheeky face to make you laugh although mr spooner is good and i prefer kenneth waller to harold bennet (mr grace although i suppose he`s ok a bit and i like mr rumbold too i like the way he gets things mixed up
yes all the characters are brilliant from shirley brahms to mrs slocombe mr goldberg to mr grossman mr kline to mr tebbs right down to old mr webster or wagstaff and mr beauchamp and mr grainger
the only peple i don`t like are the kitchen staff they are rude obnoxious arrogant and dirty and i would not want anything they had prepared in the kitchen
