5.0 out of 5 stars A collection of Hardhouse Genius 13 Jan 2004
Format:Audio CD
Plenty has been said in the earlier reviews to give you an idea of what Tony de Vit was all about. He was a hard house pioneer, still highly regarded by dj's as one of the best, if not THE best. His music follows a fairly simple formula: fast, banging and must make the listeners hair stand on end. To not know who he is, is to not be a true hardhouse fan. So what if you've never heard of him. Fair enough, you've never heard his music then. If your a fairly regular clubber, chances are you have heard his music, you just don't know it. I was aware of Tony de Vit when i purchased his greatest hits, but had no idea that i would recognise so much of his music.

CD1 is a collection of his own tunes, and there isn't a poor one among them. You may have recently heard a couple of remixes on other compilation albums, but they never quite do the business, simply because they were perfected by Tony originally. "I don't Care" I consider the most definitive hardhouse tune of all time. If you've ever seen what Faithless-Insomnia does to a dancefloor, "I don't care" grabs a crowds attention even more. It's a tune that will give u goosebumps, and I guarantee you'll say to yourself "I swear I've heard this before". Then there's "Are you all ready", which has a bassline that touches your inner soul, and just completely sucks you in. "The Dawn" phenomenal, recognisable also. "Splashdown" Fast, mental raving madness. It's a collection that is years old, but was before its time, so sounds fresh and did you notice its released by tidy. Enough said. An argument can errupt when trying to put his best 5 in order. Mine is 1. I don't care 2. Are you all ready? 3. The Dawn 4. Splashdown 5. Give me a reason. My mate reckons are you all ready? is best, its harder, but doesn't quite have as much feeling in it. It's a tough call, but you know that Tony hit perfection with I don't care.

CD2: what? as if CD1 isn't quality enough, we're given a second CD of his remixes. It doesn't fit the tall order of being better than CD1, but there are some quality remixes. Louise's naked is a delightful surprise, and the age of love remix is an updated hardhouse version, amazingly, done when the song first came out. It's an excellent version. A couple of tunes sound dated at the start, but overall another excellent collection of Tony's work.

This is a taste of musical genius packed onto 2 CD's, it must be in your collection if your a hardhouse fan, coz your not gonna get anything else but inferior remixes from now on. The tributes on the packaging and the photos are excellent, making the whole album seem as personal to Tony as possible. Just make sure you listen to it LOUD. Especially "Are you All ready". That is an experience like none other when the volumes on full.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Better All Be Ready 7 Nov 2003
Format:Audio CD
After being recently converted to hard house and hard trance from trance, i was fairly unaware of the impact that Tony de Vit had on the hard dance scene, and on music in general. Of course i had heard the Paul Janes remix of The Dawn, one of Tony's finest works, but i was unaware just how much everyone in the hard dance scene owed him. After listening to this album and reading the booklet that came with it, i am now in a position to tell you: We owe him EVERYTHING. That is the very simple fact, and the music contained on this album illustrates this perfectly.
The first disc is a mix of all his tunes, and is a journey into hard house unlike any other. there are tracks to get you singing (Give Me a Reason), tracks to get you bouncing (Burning Up), tracks to get your hands in the air (The Dawn), and tracks to bring out the devil in you (I Don't Care). The CD doesn't contain the paul Janes remix of The Dawn, which i think is to it's benefit. Although it is Tony's best known work, it was released as a tribute after his death, and so would not fit on a CD celebrating his work. And the original is just as good, so who's complaining?
The CD doesn't credit the DJ's who mixed this, and trust me i've looked, but i personally have a sneaking feeling it was mixed by the Tidy Boys. This is just a hunch, but if i'm right you can't afford to miss out on this CD: The godfather of hard house mixed by the second coming? now thats got to be worth twelve quid!!
The second CD is more of the same, hard house antics applied to a few tunes you'll recognise from back in the day. While it sometimes threatens to spill over into cheese, it somehow stays on course and another quality mix is delivered, my personal favourite tune being the de Vit remix of Age of Love's 'Age of Love'.
To sum up, if you already have this CD you'll know what i'm talking about. If you haven't got it then why are you still reading this? Go and order it now you fools!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fitting tribute to a legend 29 Aug 2003
Format:Audio CD
The Godfather of Hard House died some time ago, yet as this compilation shows his influence is still felt toady. Much like some of his tracks are still being played in clubs up and down the country. Every one of the tracks included is a piece of HH history and there are many classics-too many to mention. My only thing missing is the Paul Janes remix of "The Dawn", which is my personal favourite, but apart from this little glitch this double CD is highly recommended. RIP TDV
