Amazon.co.uk Review

Adrian Gilbert is well-known in the field of speculative investigation of the pyramids. With Robert Bauval he wrote The Orion Mystery, which argued that the three pyramids at Giza deliberately mirror the stars in Orion's Belt. Although this correlation has been challenged by others in the field, Gilbert Stands by it in Signs in the Sky.

The book is narrated as a personal odyssey, starting with Gilbert's first trip to Israel in 1972, and following through his later visits to the pyramids and the Holy Land. We are shown his process of discovery over the years, as pieces fall into place in his developing theory: that measurements of the pyramids, with certain biblical texts, can be interpreted astrologically. It's an interesting theory, which some readers will find convincing. Gilbert concludes that Jesus was born on 29 July 7 BC, and was baptised by John the Baptist on 6 January 26 AD, having spent much of the intervening time in Egypt, where he probably learnt the secrets of esoteric philosophy.

Various astrological conjunctions in the year 2000 suggest that we are in the End Times, prophesied in the Bible. Gilbert believes that the end of this current age will occur in 2018; unlike many other prophets, however, he sees this in a positive rather than a negative light: "it is clear that we are living at the birth of a new age of man". --David V Barrett

Format:Paperback
A sensible and thorough examination, from a number of perspectives, of a serious scientific endevour. Contributors to the book include articles from such luminaries as Isaac Asimov, Frank Drake, Thomas Van Horne and Arthur C. Clarke. The latter of which provides an interesting counter-point to the general optimistic approach of the book by asking the sceptics favorite question "If there are so many extraterrestrial civilisations out there then why haven't we heard from any of them yet ?".

Included in the various essays that comprise this book are examinations of the arguments for biological vs. machine intelligence, the sociological impact of contact with an extraterrestrial civilisation and an appraisal of the ways in which we might expand SETI in the future (including work with optical detection). As a bonus details are also given on how to link your PC to the internet and assist in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence or even set-up your own antenna in the garden.

All in all a highly recommended book for both the intrigued casual reader and the dedicated enthusiast.

I thought I deleted this 4 Nov 2011
By Franks here - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I thought I deleted this. I think I read twenty pages and then realized that I would never get those moments back. I deleted it I know I did) and I lamented for the moment I bought it. I still do. I don't remember any of it except for saying to myself "My God, this is horrible" I really feel that I deleted it. Why is it here? This is a little worrisome. An incredibly bad book which was so awful, so absolutely bad, that I feel I may have to buy another Kindle just so anything new I buy won't be read on the same screen as this loathsome garbage.
