CD Description

Beggars & Thieves was formed in NYC in 1989 by singer Louie Merlino and guitarist Ronnie Mancuso. After 5 gigs and a demo recorded with mega producer Desmond Child (Bon Jovi, Areosmith) and (Billy Squier, Alice Cooper) drummer Bobby Chouinard and (Bon Jovi bassist) Hugh McDonald, B&T was signed by Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun. Released on Atlantic around Christmas of 1990, Beggars & Thieves self-titled debut was critically acclaimed. The first single ( Beggars & Thieves ) started to take off, charting in the top 40 Billboard Magazine Album Rock Charts and being added to rotation on over 100 Parallel One AOR radio stations. The band then lost momentum when their A&R man left the label and their managers Q-Prime (Metallica, Def Leppard and Muse) were understandably distracted by the death of one of there biggest clients, Def Leppard guitarist Steve Clark. By the time Q-Prime regained their focus, Atlantic had moved on. Q-Prime still believing in the band managed to get Beggars released from Atlantic and immediately signed them to Epic/Sony. Beggars recorded their second album Look What You Create in Vancouver with (Aerosmith, Scorpions, Bryan Adams) collaborator Jim Vallance and (Rush, Dream Theater) engineer Paul Northfield. By the time of the release, Grunge was king and Beggars (although really a Classic Rock Band) were lumped in with the hair bands and pass their due date. Ronnie & Louie stayed in the music business doing jingles as well as lots of music for Fox Sports and NASCAR.Louie and Ron started playing together again in 2004 forming Sin City All-Star s with (Ex-Faster Pussycat Guitarist) Brent Muscat, opening shows for Tesla, Vince Neil, Ratt, Slaughter, and Skid Row. Mancuso started writing songs again and thought Louie has one of the best voices in rock and he sounds better than ever. I m finally getting really good at songwriting. As an artist I m doing my best work ever. Why shouldn t we continue? So Beggars started the recording the basic tracks of We Are the Brokenhearted with legendary NYC drummer Thommy Price (Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Billy Idol, Scandal) and his cohort in the (Blackhearts) bassist Enzo Penizzotto While finishing their album, Beggars started playing live when Vince Neil along with Las Vegas Legend Custom Motorcycle Builder (The Count) opened the club Feelgoods in Las Vegas, Ronnie & Louie s hometown since the early 2000 s. Rounding out the group now is drummer Erik Gloege, who played for years in a rhythm section with (Metallica) bassist Robert Trujillo and 22 tears old bassist Blake Newman, whose youth has invigorated the band. As Merlino says, the younger crowds seem to love us, it s so cool to look out and see kids in there 20 s get it as much as the older rock crowd . Beggars played the renowned Firefest Festival 2010 in Nottingham, England where they received glowing reviews and were voted biggest surprise of the festival. Beggars have just begun re-establishing their brand after using Firefest as their launching pad. Mancuso says This is just the beginning; we want to focus on Europe as well as putting our songs in movies and commercials in America. This isn t just some guy's trying to have a little fun reliving the past. We are very serious about this. We want to compete with the big boys!

What an outstanding release yet again.
A band that is overlooked by the British rock public has released yet another flawless cd.
Mr Merlino,Mr Mancuso and the band have produced another classic that will give the best of the rest a run for their money.
I gave the band a listen when i heard their first self titled release after hearing Louie Merlino and mistook his voice for Steve Augeri (Journey,Tyketto and Tall Stories).
Since then i have bought all their releases and none have failed to impress.
The latest release is a polished AOR/Rock release of the highest order.
Try out 'Never gonna see you again' and 'We are the broken hearted' and experience the excellence that are Beggars and Thieves.
The cd is a grower,it is good on first listen but just gets better and better the more you play.
Listen and buy,i can assure you you wont be dissapointed.
2011 has been a wonderful year of top drawer releases..The Union,Journey,Dream Theater,Foreigner,John Waite,Fastway and more...Beggars and Thieves are up there and deserve to be recognised.
Happy New Years listening.

A great B&T album 8 Jan 2012
Format:Audio CD
B&T are back ... thankfully!
after quite a number of years out since their last one 'The Grey Album' on the now defunct MTM label, Larry & Ron return with a corker. This is an album that is best played as a whole, there are stand out songs but i really think it sounds more on balance when time taken to listen from start to finish.

defo check this cd out, if you like great vocals and good melodic rocking tunes and alternatives to the likes of Daughtry and Nickelback give these guys a shot. you will not be disappointed

New Classic Rock 14 Dec 2011
By Siculiana Paolo - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
"A really great example of an old band coming back, updating their sound to contemporary+, but still retaining much of what made them great in the first place. That brooding intensity remains and full credit must go to Ron Mancuso for some terrific songwriting and well thought out song structures and arrangements. There is so much going on within the album - many many layers - the mix is incredible to allow this all to breathe and shine through."
A huge production complete an album that look like a masterpiece!

I don't think the band will miss you! This is not a political album by any stretch nor is the video, are they showing funny situations like a guy dressed up as Gene Simmons, funny dialogue on the screen ala VH's "Right Now"? sure but it's their opinions to have and share just as it is for you to post one in an Amazon review! is this a political forum? sorry the truth hurts!! :) As for the record...well-written, high quality melodic rock that people should appreciate for the songs and the songs alone!!

Music = good. Political grandstanding = bad. 18 Dec 2011
By hairbandz - Published on Amazon.com

i was excited about this release. i really was. Thank GOD i saw the video for "We Come Undone" before i shelled out my hard-earned money on this album.

It is apparent that this band doesn't want me as a fan. As a supporter of the Tea Party movement, i am not their desired demographic. They despise me. They mock me in their video. That's ok. It's a lame attempt at drumming up "controversy," all the while ripping off Van Halen.

Get a clue musicians, stop alienating half of your audience. If you want to change the world, become a politician. Otherwise, just SING and shut the hell up about politics.
