Ardennes,

This review is from: Ardennes, 1944: Hitler's Last Gamble in the West (Osprey Military Campaign) (Paperback)
Although generally focusing on the forces involved at the Divisional level, I found this book very interesting as it went into greater detail of the German Army’s plans, the forces and weapons available and what the allies had facing them. It also described some of the battles in the campaign in greater detail but did not give an insight to the average man’s life, his equipment or weapons.

Quite good for modelers,

In the usual Campaign series format, highlights from the book are the topological maps in 3D and the uniforms and equipment sketches. (These drawings actually come from other Osprey series, such as WARRIORS, MEN AT ARMS, or ELITE.) The historical treatment is not too deep (the book isn't that long!) but gives a nice overview of the whole "battle of the Bulge".You could also get ARNHEM 1944 and NORMANDY 1944, from the same series, to complete your collection about that year of WWII. |
