Great photos but riddled with factual mistakes!, 30 Mar 2006
This review is from: The Arctic Monkeys (Paperback)
Being a huge Arctic Monkeys fan I purchased the new book but was disappointed when reading through to find several glaring mistakes. Biggest mistake (certainly for Jamie Cooke) was being branded a die-hard Sheffield United fan when he is on fact a die-hard Sheffield Wednesday fan! The book also mentions the boys attended Ecclestone School as kids (would that be the same Ecclesfield School that I attended!)and being a High Green resident myself for many years I'd love to know where this alleged Tram museum is and where I could play on these so called Badminton Courts!! All I can say it that the author has obviously never even visited the Monkeys home territory and it just smacks of lazy journalism. Despite these errors (and other minor mistakes in the text) I would still say the book is a welcome first attempt at recording the career of a band that will be around for a long time.

Get your facts right !!!, 10 Mar 2006
This review is from: The Arctic Monkeys (Paperback)
After only reading the first couple of pages I can tell this is just a book written by someone who want's to make a quick buck from the Band. The author waffles on about Sheffield's steel heritage every other sentence and what a dump Sheffield is in the next. He refers to all 4 lads being from High Green in Sheffield for which only 3 members are with the other from Hillsborough. He refers to High Green being 5 miles from the city centre when in fact it is 7-8 miles away. The final nail in the coffin was when he says 3 of the lads are Sheffield Wednesday fans (which is correct) but then goes on to say the Jamie Cook is a Sheffield United fan and attends regulaly which I am sure will impress Jamie who is actually an Wednesday fan. If you are going to do a book about someone you should at least try and get your facts correct !!!

This review is from: The Arctic Monkeys (Paperback)
The Arctic Monkeys may be a slightly cynical undertaking but it's not all bad. Much of the info about the band must be suspect at this early stage so I expected a few mistakes. On the whole it does capture the excitement of their emergence on the scene and it's good to see that they're taken seriously enough to be written about. It's a perfect introduction to anyone wanting to know what the fuss is all about and does make you want to listen to the music
