Archos Arnova 8 G2 8 inch Tablet (8GB Memory, WiFi, Front Camera, Speaker and Microphone, Android 2.3 Gingerbread)

Well the product description here is clearly wrong since its an 8 inch screen and a capacitive touchscreen.
Its a good device. good clear screen for reading, nice and responsive to the touch. It does lack some features that you really would expect - including a power on password/lock. I had to download app-locker from the app store to give some protection. Even thats not ideal.The app store provided isnt as comprehensive as the full google markets store either.

I'm sure you can do all sots of things with custom firmwares, rooting, etc. But as a device this does what I wanted.
As a PDF book reader, an avi movie player, an internet tablet its great. These units have been on sale much cheaper at PC World and Dixons, so I'd recommend looking around.

This is a BUDGET tablet so when you get it don't expect it to be like an Ipad.

The screen is bright (even on low) and colourful and has a great battery life.

I've played about with it online and off and the battery life is pretty good. I get probably 5 - 6 hours.

Obviously the more WIFI used the shorter the battery time. It's still very impressive to what I expected.

The touch screen is quite responsive and the processor seems pretty quick running Angry Birds with no noticable slow-down.

Videos look great but to get full 1080p you have to plug it into a 1080p HDTV as the screen itself cannot display 1080p.

Here is the bad news...

This tablet will not connect to the Android Market where all the main apps are.. This is because it's running Ginger Bread 2.3 which is a mobile phone operating system and the tablet is not a phone. Unless you know how to change the firmware or you are a technical whiz you have only access to a 3rd party app store (Appslib) which has many of the best apps missing (ie no Cut The Rope, Zombie Dash ect ) as from this review date.

This is the only reason i've knocked off a star in the rating as this tablet is not approved to go on Android's Market even though it is capable of doing so. It seems only the expensive.. cough .. Galaxy Tabs ect have approval to use it.

A few months after buying this product it wouldn't stop charging. The charge light never changed colour to show it was fully charged.
Dropped my rating as think quality is iffy and reckon I should save up for a branded model instead.

Bought it few days ago, Its good for net surfing, reasonable battery life, good size. But Google Play store is not assailable , Skype not compatible, Google map not compatible (no gps), poor camera.
