For radio recording the ARCHOS ONDIO is equipped with a unique 30-second retro-record buffer. This allows you to record complete songs even if you press the record button after the song has started! It also enables you to edit your recordings once they are registered.
You benefit from the unique combination of features of the ONDIO:
Listen to the radio on your built-in FM tuner, store a minimum of 2 hours of CD-quality MP3 music either from your computer, or record straight from the built-in FM tuner or any other analog audio source. Use the built-in microphone to turn it into digital Dictaphone during meetings or to remember important ideas that come to you while you are on the move. The voice record capacity is minimal 4 hours. Take your data with you by storing it into the 128MB Flash memory, using the USB 1.1 compatible interface. Store any combination of MP3 music (from CD, built-in FM tuner or other audio source), voice and data from 128MB. The ONDIO is the smallest audio/data storage product of its kind. Slip it into your shirt-pocket and go!

Fantastic value in a small package,
This review is from: Archos Ondio 128MB MP3 PLAYER (Electronics)
The Ondio is great value for an mp3 player and very competetively priced with others that have similar features, yet there are several things that make it stand out on its own.Firstly it not only incorporates an fm radio but also allows you to record off it - at very good quality if you've tuned in your channel presets right. Secondly it has line in recording as well - which I tried out connecting the supplied analog lead to my friends guitar amp and recorded his jamming session just like that. The third reason that quite important for me and a feature lacking in most mp3 players - it works as usb flash drive without any drivers on both windows xp and mac os 9/10. Since macintosh support is, well, undersupported to say the least I'd say that was what sold this to me - along with the compactness of the box fitting in all those wonderful and fun features. Well worth the current price, a must have gadget that also has room for expansion in the future.

A really nice player...,

The MMC slot works quite happily with a 1GB card, but does not support SD.The unit doesn't have a backlight, but maybe this isn't so bad. I had another MP3 player with a back light which just wasted battery power (Even on auto mode). It was switchable, but the only time you wanted to switch it on, was when you couldn't see to switch it on! The supplied case, made out of diving suit material (fabric covered foam) looks really nice, but is slightly too small,so the buttons won't line up with the holes. It is getting better as I use it so it may be okay in a few weeks. When I don't have any MMC card in it saves all my settings fine. But with a MMC in it will not save any settings. But on the up side you can safely remove and insert without switching off. Even when attached to your PC. The unit can record from three different sources: radio, Line in or from the integrated microphone. It is surprisingly light, even with three AAA batteries installed. It can happily sit in a shirt pocket. The three battery configuration is a little annoying, as packs of batteries and battery chargers invariable deal in even numbers. At first I noticed quite a few bugs, but these were almost all alleviated with a firmware upgrade from www.archos.com. This is not at all scary, you just down load a file from the website, and copy it onto the player, as you would with an MP3 The headphones are okay, with in-line volume control, in addition to the volume control on the unit. The USB cable provided wasn't the best I've ever seen, the connection is a little shaky. Fortunately I had another USB device As well as recording in VBR, it can playback VBR recordings too. It behaves as a standard mass storage device, so work fine with Linux >=2.4 kernel. I can't comment on software supplied, as it is all for Windoze/Mac. But with no printed manual, the manual on the CD is essential to find all the available features. It has a file browser, which allows you to create your own playlists and read text files. All this functionality comes at a price - the user interface it not the most intuitive. Maybe not suitable for a technophobe, but fine if you're willing to spend a little time exploring.

Ondio flash player - best small package available today,

Pluses:- expandable flash via MMC/SD cards - builtin 128 mb - voice record - radio - MP3 record line-in or radio - 30 sec retro -buffer on radio record - ATA drive in Windows (drag&drop files) Minues: My email asking whehter >128MB cards would work in the player went unanswered but I still bought the player. I wanted something small and shock proof and expandable. This fit the bill. Add in backlight and the ability to draw power from the usb hub, I would give it five stars. Manual is of marginal quality. Accessories are good. Comes with a case that doesn't quite fit and headphones that are dull but this is fairly standard. I later found out that the external flash support is a little flakey. Songs played from my one lexar 128mb mmc are incredibily choppy or nothing is heard at all. Flash fit is very tight and difficult to manage at best. This aspect of the device is flawed. However, the rest of the device works quite well. Really do miss not having a backlight available. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful:

Does what I want,

Pros:- I bought the Ondio mostly as a voice recorder, and I am very pleased with it in that capacity. It records directly to MP3 files and the recordings sound great (slight hiss). I record mostly in my car and the background noise is not a factor. - The MP3 player works great as well. Good sound, loud enough, good capacity. - The entire unit functions as a USB drive, so you just plug it in and move files on and off through the file system. Super easy and straight forward. Cons: - Other reviewers are right about the radio reception. Walking around the house causes even the most powerful signals in my area to cut out. The headphone cord is the antenna so maybe that can be fixed with a better cord(?). Probably not so good for runners. However, if you can get a steady signal, you can record to MP3 very easily, which is kinda cool. - The "Line In" port does not allow you to use normal PC microphones, which is sad. Apparently, "powered mics" work, but I haven't tried it. The internal mic is very good however. - The case does not fit quite right (partially covers button) and doesn't provide more than cushioning. No belt clip. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful:

Very good player and recorder,

Before buying the Ondio, I had my eyes on the RipFlash Plus 128MB. I ordered one from Amazon, but had to cancel it because it was back-ordered and I hate to wait for more than a month. I am really happy for that decision. In less than a week, I bought this Ondio and now I couldn't be happier.I have read reviews by others, and many of the complaints are non-an-issue thanks to the firmware upgrade. There have been a major upgrade in firmware 1.32b, and most bugs are eliminated. I expect other bugs be corrected and new features (such as WMA support) be added soon. The firmware upgrade is easy as a flip. Features I like: (1) Line-in recording. This really makes music conversion easy. Features I am happy to have although wish it better: (1) FM (this is an bonus compared to the RipFlash Plus) has reception for only a few station (only those with VERY strong signal). But the quality is good. The reason may be that it filters out weak signals. Really not a big deal. The sound is very loud and the level is ajusted via the earphone instead of the player. This may be the reason that the battery life is only 12 hours from three AAA batteries, compared with 20 hours from 2 AAA. Too much a difference in my oppinion. Overall, I am happy with the purchase. I also paid less for it. |
